MCVEIGH-NICHOLS QUESTIONS LINGER
Kevin Flynn; Rocky Mountain News Staff Writer(snip)
3. An hour before Nichols surrendered for questioning in Herington, Kan., two days after the bombing, a mentally disturbed 33-year-old man set himself on fire in his truck, parked at a deserted farm 15 miles away. The FBI briefly looked into whether the man, Michael Abbott of Lincoln, Neb., might have been the unidentified John Doe 2 seen with McVeigh when the Ryder truck used in the bombing was rented nearby. The local sheriff looked more closely and could not tie Abbott to the suspects. McVeigh once told Fortier he planned to build the bomb in a spot hidden from highways. The government believes the bomb was built at Geary State Fishing Lake, between Herington and Junction City, but that spot is visible from an adjacent highway. Abbott's suicide occurred at an abandoned farm five miles from the nearest paved road. Nichols could discuss whether the bomb was built at Geary Lake or elsewhere and whether McVeigh had any other assistance.
4. Did the conspirators use a second prepaid long-distance calling card? A list of phone numbers for which the FBI obtained subpoenas for calling records includes a second card from the same radical-right newspaper through which McVeigh and Nichols bought a card for ''Daryl Bridges.'' McVeigh used that card to make numerous calls to explosives-materials suppliers and associates. Authorities believe there are no other conspirators. But they refuse to answer questions about the second card, which was used to make 1,055 calls from Dec. 13, 1993, to May 15, 1995.(snip)
ahh, the mysterious 2nd card trick!
I guess crooks must be dumb, that's why they get caught, but why didn't they just throw these phone cards out the window of the truck on the way to murrah that morning?
of course you've gotta wonder (pass the reynolds wrap) who really did make those calls.
One of these days I'm going to put together a timeline thread consisting of the early news reports.

Clinton is speaking out strongly against the threat of terrorism. The President says he supports the right of free speech, but warns that political extremists about the tone of their comments. (SB) Clinton says they hear so many loud and angry voices in America today whose sole goal seems to be to keep some people as angry as possible and the rest of us torn up and upset with each other, but they spread hate and leave the impression violence is acceptable. Clinton says those that speak must know that their bitter words can have consequences. Clinton says Americans must speak out against people who encourage violence.

The FBI has put out a new sketch of John Doe #2 the suspect still at large. When manager of motel in Junction City, Kansas saw picture said it looked like a man who stayed there two days before bombing, drove a Ryder Truck, spoke broken English and said he was Colorado.

New sketch draws memory of John Doe 2
By Sharon Cohen, The Associated Press
OKLAHOMA CITY -- A motel manager in Kansas said he recognized the man in a new FBI sketch of "John Doe 2" as a nervous guest with a foreign accent.
Rescuers continued to rake through the rubble for bodies and this grieving city continued to bury its dead. The death toll rose to 96.
The FBI released an enhanced sketch of the most wanted man in America, a square-jawed individual linked to the nation's deadliest domestic terrorist attack here April 19. It shows a man wearing a baseball cap and is otherwise very similar to the original picture of "John Doe 2": a man with dark, heavy eyebrows, thick lips, short neck, slightly flared nostrils and square jaw.
In Junction City, Kan., the manager of the Great Western Inn was watching television with two reporters when the new sketch flashed on the screen. He said he recognized him as the man who stayed in Room 107 on April 17 -- two days before the bombing.
"He spoke broken English. He was not 100 percent American," said the manager, who is East Indian and himself speaks with an accent. The manager, who requested anonymity for fear of retaliation, said the man gave a foreign name and was driving a Ryder rental truck.
"He was scared. He didn't want to talk to me too much," the manager told The Associated Press on Tuesday. He couldn't give the name the man registered under because FBI agents took away his log book.
The motel is one exit down Interstate 70 from the Dreamland Motel, where Timothy McVeigh, who was charged earlier in the bombing, stayed April 14-18.
I wonder if there is a way possible to see if Padilla had a telephone during this time and if there is a way to access telephone calls made from and to that number if one did exist?
getting rid of those pesky motel registers seems to be the fibbers S.O.P.
Is there another Judge who didn't let his grandkids go ?
Is this Judge-grandkids thing just BS?
If it is true, what does that tell us?
The judge whose grandchildren were usually present in the Murrah Building daycare facility was US District Judge Wayne Alley, who was originally the jurist chosen to oversee the trial. When it was realized that Alley's statements to the Oregonian newspaper before the trial indicated that he had a considerable personal interest in the outcome of the case, and could even have been called as a witness, the case was handed to Judge Matsch instead.
Of course, the interesting details of a family tragedy suggests that he too had to play along, lest he have other family members die from falling into volcanos.
U.S. District Judge Wayne Alley, whose office was in the federal courthouse across the street form the Murrah building, told the daily newspaper, The Oregonian (04/20/95);"Let me say that within the past two or three weeks, information has been disseminated...that indicated concerns on the part of people who ought to know that we ought to be a little bit more careful." (39)
Judge Alley didn't come to work that day, he also didn't bring his grandchildren to the day care centre in the Murrah building. Judge Alley has since refused to repeat these comments or allow himself to be interviewed again.
Dana Cooper, director of the day care centre, who was killed in the blast, received numerous bomb threats, which she reported to several government agencies. At 9am sharp, some FBI agents normally brought their children to the day care centre, while they conducted business in the building, but this wasn't done on the day of the blast.
Mena, Arkansas? Could this be behind Bush's refusal to investigate anything about X42?
Actually, to get him to step down from another trial on which he was serving, so that another *fixed* judge could replace him. But I don't have to suggest it; Al Martin already did.

Mena, Arkansas? Could this be behind Bush's refusal to investigate anything about X42?
Partly, perhaps. But don't forget that the field at Mena was but one where narcotics transshipments were made with the knowledge of well-paid local authorities, in Arkansas going all the way up to the governor. And there was a similar handy landing/drop area hub in Texas, as well during that same time period.
Then there's the interesting business connection between George Bush, James Bath and Osama bin-Laden's brother Salem during the development of Houston-area SPX airport...., [then called Houston Guld Airport.] The death of Salem bin-Laden in a 1988 Houston ultralight airplane accident may remind some folks of some of the Clinton organized crime family deaths...and that of Panamanian strongman Omar Torrijos, which put CIA Director George H. Bush's partner Manuel Noriega into power in Panama...on July 31, 1981, 21 years ago, just after the ink was dry on the Panama Canal treaties. Happy anniversary!
