"If Mr. Rubin would add something, I don't have any hesitation to call him," said Mr. Lieberman, chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee. 7/31/02
At every opportunity we should ask this question...WHERE IS RUBIN?
And every time McAuliffe opens his mouth we should ask HIM about Global Crossing, not to mention that loan to Gephardt and his shady bank dealings.
...except that the majority of Americans who get their news from ABCCCBSNBCCNNMSNBCCNBC and most of the major newspapers will never hear about it. It's our duty to get the word out!
2. Recently, former Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin called a top U.S. Treasury official, asking on Enron's behalf, for government help with credit agencies. As you well know, Rubin is the chairman of executive committee at Citigroup, which just coincidentally, is Enron's largest unsecured creditor at an estimated $3 billion dollars.
3. As you well know, Mr. Leiberman, Citigroup is Senator Tom Daschle's largest contributor ($50,000) in addition to being your single largest contributor ($112,546). This fact brings to mind some disturbing questions I feel you must answer.
a. Have you, any member of your staff, any Senate or House colleagues, any relatives or any friends of yours, been asked by Citigroup to intercede on their behalf, in an effort to recover part or all of Citigroup's $3 billion, at the expense of Enron's shareholders, employees and or Enron pensioners?
b. Did your largest contributor, Citigroup, have anything to do with the collapse of Enron?
c. Enron has tens of thousands of employees, stockholders and pensioners who have lost their life savings. How will you answer their most obvious question? Do you represent Citigroup, your largest contributor, or do you represent the Enron employees, et al, who stand to lose if Citigroup recovers any of its $3 billion?
During Sunday's Face the Nation, both you and Senator McCain praised Attorney General Ashcroft for recusing himself from the Justice Department investigation because he had once received a contribution from Enron. I know in my heart, that, being the honest gentleman you are, you will now recuse yourself because of the glaring conflict of interest described above. I also know that you will pass this letter to your successor for his or her attention.
Very truly yours,
Robert Theodore Knalur
Do you have contact info for McQuirk?
I had hopes it would run because she would be irrelevant in four year. Alas. However, as another FReeper put it: Hillary's amazing success has more than a touch of the Satanic about it.

DNC Releases Poll Findings on Prescription Drugs Survey
Thursday August 1, 4:44 pm Eastern Time
Press Release
SOURCE: Democratic National Committee
WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Democratic National Committee (DNC) commissioned Garin, Hart, Yang Strategic Research and the Mellman Group to conduct a national survey from July 24-27, 2002 among 1004 likely voters nationwide.
The following results were found on a question about prescription drugs:
"If the U.S. Senate fails to pass legislation to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, which party would you blame more?"
The Republicans...........29
Both Equally (VOL)......29
The Democrats............22
Not Sure.....................14
Neither (VOL)...............6
Margin of error +/- 3%
This national survey underscores the point that Americans trust the Democratic Party to pass comprehensive prescription drug legislation. The majority of Senators voted for a bill that guaranteed drug benefits in Medicare. The Senate Democratic prescription drug benefit bill, offered by Senators Graham, Miller, and Kennedy, garnered 52 votes -- more than any other benefit bill. Democrats fought hard to pass an affordable, comprehensive, and reliable benefit in Medicare for all seniors, but Republicans blocked these efforts. This survey proves that Americans know that Republicans are playing politics at the expense of America's seniors. Moreover, the New York Times today stated that "Lobbyists for brand-name drug companies said they would make herculean efforts to keep those bills off the House floor."
DNC Chairman McAuliffe said, "All seniors, whether they are Democrats or Republicans, want a real prescription drug benefit. If Republicans, who have been fighting Medicare for 40 years, can't break their allegiance to the pharmaceutical industry, voters will have to elect more Democrats on November 5, 2002 to get what they need."
