Thanks for posting this article. I am presently involved in such a case. The greatest injustice I see is including gross income in the guidelines formula. The father I represent received a $90,000 bonus last year which was included in the child support calculation. There was no acknowledgment that of the $90,000 approximately $47,000 went to taxes while he received $43,000. In effect the father is having income included in the child support calculations that he does not receive. If anyone has dealt with the issues of gross vs net income, please freepmail me. Thanks!

That note at the beginning of the article admonishes the reader to take the time to understand the information. However considering the length of the article, it would have been better just write a paragraph summary of his findings so that I can decide if I want to spend my time reading this screed.

And people wonder why men from younger generations don't want to become fathers, nor get married.

Nice work. I've been doing child support all my 18 years of practice. What do you recommend instead- go back to the old days and pick a number out of thin air, like we used to?

Do you suggest that each divorcing family would have to show their actual expenditure on the kids, and Mom or Dad pays no more than they ever did during marriage? That is probably the CAUSE of their divorce- inappropriate direction of resources. (Mom must go to the tanning salon even if there's no milk in the fridge- and yes, I had that case. He got the little ones)

My most frustrating moments as a DAG were caused by welfare queens who complained unceasingly that "we weren't collecting!!!!" and then tell us Daddy was living under a bridge.

I expect you are right on that beefing up the "Collections" by getting inappropriate default orders is the leading source of the "deadbeat Dad" nonsense. What does the guy under the bridge care if he's charged $150 or $650 per month? He ain't payin' nohow.

Question for those on my bump list: I often post articles from Men's News Daily ( www.mensnewsdaily.com ) here and sometimes from FatherMag.com Do you read articles at those sites anyway?

I'm asking on the verge of posting another article from MND today by Jeffery M. Leving (he is a lawyer with an MND internet radio program) entitled; "New Adoption Law Correctly Requires Mothers to Publish Sexual Pasts, Says Fatherhood Educational Institute"

It's a pretty good article that gets right to the heart of some matters well worth mentioning. Example:
An argument that is seldom put forth is that fathers want notification to contest an adoption because they want to be responsible and have meaningful and loving relationships with their children. Why is it so hard to believe that a man would want to love, nurture, and protect his own offspring?

We as a society are talking out of both sides of our mouths when we say we want fathers to be "responsible" and involved, yet when they come forward, their motives for doing so are denigrated or questioned. The truth is that most men love their children and want to be there for them as much as most mothers do.

To me, this is an example of societies' conflicted and stereotypical thinking regarding dads and men. Unfortunately, male and father bashing has become so automatic that many people don't even realize that they are doing it.
