This is almost certainly a bogus list. There is an Internet tradition of making lists of Dumb Quotes, attributing them to your favorite political enemy, then sending them out to your email buddies. At this moment I'm quite sure that there are thousands of Bush-haters who are convinced that Bush said all of these things.

In truth, I believe some of these quotes (maybe not all) can be traced to Quayle. See the "urban legends" website (snopes.com)....

Not that any of this makes Gore any smarter, of course. He's still an idiot. He just probably didn't say these particular dumb things. He's said plenty of other dumb things though.

Actually, Quayle was responsible for most of the above...

Dan Quayle has certainly made more than his share of misstatements, and most of the ones on the following list are actual Quayle quotes (although versions of this list with all the quotes mischievously attributed to Vice-President Al Gore and Texas governor George W. Bush also circulate around the Internet).

You are right. Every one of those that I recognize is a Quayle quote, with necessary items changed (eg, Republicans -> Democrats).

Most (I think all) of these quotes actually originated from that silver-tongued devil, Dan Quayle. The fact that references were changed (such as "Bush" to Clinton") suggests that someone with questionable ethics compiled this list.

I was a huge Bush/Quayle supporter and actually kept a list of Dan's misquotes at the time because I got a kick out of them.

Who is to blame for the killings? The killers are to blame."

According to the clinton justice department the guns are to blame, it makes no difference if a knife was used...

Oh, it was Dan Quayle. Well, he is very intelligent, personable and handsome, but not so good in speaking under certain pressures I guess. It is funny, because in television interviews, he's fantastic. But then again not everyone can be a boring mario cuomo and clintoon -- all good-sounding talk with alot of inaction!

Here is a web site with real Algore funny quotes. http://www.gargaro.com/algore.html
Interesting that the media let these slide unlike Quayle's flubs.

My favorite Algore quote....

"A zebra does not change its spots." - Al Gore, attacking President George Bush in 1992.
