Airline food will kill ya!

Elaine : Dr Rumack, Mr Hammond ate fish, and Randy said there are five more cases and they all had fish too.

Rumack : And the Co-Pilot had fish, what did the navigator have?

Elaine : He had fish.

Rumack : Alright, now we know what we're up against. Every passenger on this flight who had fish for dinner will become violently ill in the next half hour ( Oever notices he had fish and begins to come down with the symptoms as they are described )

Elaine : Just how serious is it Doctor?

Rumack : Extremely serious. It starts with a slight fever and dryness of the throat. When the virus penetrates the red blood cells, the victim becomes dizzy begins to experience an itchy rash, then the poison goes to work on the central nervous system, severe muscle spasms followed by the inevitable grueling. At this point, the entire digestive system collapses accompanied by uncontrollable flatulence ( Oever begins to fart ) Until finally, the poor bastard is reduced to a quivering wasted piece of jelly.

I can't believe the turn this thread has taken. You're correct Canadians are great people and they have always been our friends. In times of war they have been our brothers in arms and in times of peace they have been and will hopefully remain our trading partner.

Okay, that said, it's now 1:15PM PDT and this thread was started early this morning. Does anyone know what happened to the people from the flight? Is there any further news, eh?

"Pointing to Toronto specifically as a terror hub/starting point is patently false.

You are correct in assuming that (1) I am not Canadian and (2) I have never been to Toronto. And thus I leave I am open to having my preconcieved notions corrected, such is the art of learning. However the original discussion was in reference to a lot of "Terrorist associated activity" coming out of the Toronto/Canada area.

More so then other parts of the country "lately", please note the last word. I came up with a lot more references then three to the Toronto area, this is not to say other parts of the world do not have their own "terrorist" incidents. Or did you also forget the little "Lighting of the shoe" incident by an Iranian teenager?

I am posting a link to a Toronto web site with specifics on the city itself. Diversity seems to be a hot topic there, and while (silly me) French does not seem to be the prodominate language , it comes in a close second.

Link isn't working, but don't be surprised to see every single city in Canada list French as the second language. This is basically a given, seeing as it is an official language. I would be more than shocked to find any kind of official statistics that said that French was a close second to English when it comes to primary language spoken in day-to-day life. Now, if it is language spoken, technically french SHOULD be close to English. Why? Because every single schoolchild in Ontario is required to learn some french. This has no bearing on the backgrounds of these individuals however, as knowing a second language hardly implies having that culture as your background or believing ANY of its beliefs.

The fact remains that as few as 2% of Ontarians are of French (French-Canadian) descent.

"Or did you also forget the little "Lighting of the shoe" incident by an Iranian teenager"

Maybe I am missing something, but were there explosives found in his shoe, or was he hoping that the rubber would spontaneous explode? How can someone lighting a non-burning rubber sole be considered terrorism rather stupidity? Even the kids Dad said as much, basically calling his son an idiot for playing around with the lighter.

Now, this clearly shows that in Canada as a whole (the far-right column), French is the second most spoken language (there are ~6 million people in Quebec). Now, the first column on the left side contains the numbers for Toronto. Scanning, we see that in fact there are more Chinese, Italian, Portugese, Spanish, Polish, Tamil, Philipino and Greek speaking people in Toronto than there are French.

As a portion of the population, Toronto is composed of ~1.1% French speaking people.

You see a stupid teenager, I see a terrorist (the father), using his son to test the response of the people on board. I.E. are there Air Marshalls on board, is it possible to do something like this and have enough time to "do the deed". Passing little things like this off to stupidity is going to get us all killed.

On second glance, I missed the whole "test the waters" angle. My appologies, I am not defending this kid and his dad/handler, just stating that really that can't be classified as terrorism, but certainly is something, as you point out, to remain vigilant about. I'll admit that if I had seen this kid doing what he was doing, bomb or not, he would have been quickly tackled.

Hey, we can fairly agree to disagree on this topic, I don't claim to know every hidy-hole in Toronto, only it's overall character and composition. I hope that we won't see any terrorist activity originating from Toronto, or any other city for that matter. Vigilence is key.

Fregards

Forgot to add that this whole shoe bomb thing is quite astonishing. Old ladies are getting the business end of some security guards rubber gloves for bring her darning needle on the plane, while anyone can bring matches/lighters on without a second look, EVEN though you can't smoke on a plane (scratches head)

It looks like Baltimore is broken ...... again.

BWI is actually in Anne Arundel County, which is truly a world away from our disfunctional neighbor to the north.
