That is why we established the Global Development Alliance to combine the assets of government, business and civil society to work in partnership on implementing sustainable development programs.

Pardon me whilst I'm sick in the corner. The next thing he needs to do is sing the Internationale.

Compelling issue? Compelling?

This babble is nearly a direct quote from Bill Clinton's and Kofi Annan's recent speeches. Did we change presidents and secretaries of state several years ago? It appears not.

"But sustainable development is also a security imperative. Poverty, environmental degradation and despair are destroyers - of people, of societies, of nations. This unholy trinity can destabilize countries..."

And the MAJOR cause of poverty, environmental degradation and despair is SOCIALISM. Look at the parts of the Soviet Union, the east European nations they once controlled, and the current Communist countries of east Asia--they ALL suffered from poverty, environmental degradation, and despair FAR WORSE than ever occurred under "evil capitalism" or "evil colonialism". And yet the promulgators of "sustainable development" would have us believe that the CURE for the problems is MORE SOCIALISM, when the REAL answer is INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY and governments that protect individual and property rights.

The United States is committed to building a world where children can grow up free from hunger, disease and illiteracy.
Since those things haven't been done in the US what makes you think that it can be done worldwide Colin?
A world where all men and women can reach their human potential free from racial or gender discrimination.
Same question!
A world where all people can enjoy the richness of a diverse and healthy planet.
People can already enjoy "the richness of a diverse and healthy planet". You and the UN just want to meddle.
And a world of hopes fulfilled for all God's children
Some around the world don't admit to being G_d's children much less believing in G_d. How do you propose to resolving this issue? Forced religion?

Since when is it the job of the US to "change the world"? We'd best get the leaks fixed in our own boat fixed first.
And this...
The spread of democracy and market economies, combined with breakthroughs in technology, permits us to dream of a day when, for the first time in history, most of humanity will be free of the ravages of tyranny and poverty.
Spread of democracy my happy a$$! And our own "market economy" is doing real well right now isn't it, thanks to liars and cheats! Shall that "knowledge" be exported too? As long as there are governments there will never be an end to the ravages of tyranny. And freedom from the ravages of poverty? Dear G_d, you're still fighting the failed War on Poverty.
Your War on Poverty is impoverishing Americans!

Sustainable Development means...
Introduction to Sustainable Development
Sustainable development means different things to different people, but the most frequently quoted definition is from the report Our Common Future (also known as the Brundtland Report): 1
"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

Disaster Planning Introduction
Development continues unabated in the riskiest of areas, along the coasts and floodplains in the U.S. Communities in these high-risk regions, by definition, are not sustainable. Residents cannot count on the communities’ survival for generations to come. Some live in fear that the next rain or wind storm could mean the end of normal life. These are people and communities at risk, locked in a costly, life-threatening gamble with the environment.
Sustainable development offers a way out. For some communities, the only solution is relocation, moving entirely off the floodplain, out of harm’s way. For others, sustainable development means restricting new construction in particularly vulnerable areas, elevating structures to remove the threat of flooding, or building smarter, stronger buildings that are more hazard-resistant.

THE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Sustainable development means integrating the decision-making process across your organization, so that every decision is made with an eye to the greatest long-term benefits. It means eliminating the concept of waste -- thinking "cradle-to-cradle" rather than "cradle-to-grave," (4) and building on natural processes and energy flows and cycles; recognizing the interrelationship of our actions with the natural world.

Sustainable Development
Reducing poverty through sustainable development is a global strategic priority for the survival of our planet. For the World Bank this means dealing with the comprehensive nature of development. This approach is reflected in the implementation of projects and programs in partnership with the public and private sectors, and civil society. Participation, empowerment, strengthened institutions, environmental protection and conservation, and focus on the rural poor are all foundations for sustained and inclusive economic growth.

Sustainable Development means Business

Sustainable Development means whatever anyone wants it to mean apparently!

Sustainable development is the globalists code word for controlled development. And they have many useful idiots employed (via environmentalists, etc) to try and bring it about through NGO's.

Make no mistake ... it does not lead to liberty or anything similar to it.

They mean to rule us and this is one of their principle avenues towards it right now.

Compelling indeed Colin ... compelling is the operative word here.

And to think the republicans were falling all over themselves to get this socialist to run as Bush's VP...

For a military man, Powell doesn't seem to know his history.

I get the feeling Powell was a concession GW had to make in order to get the world bank/global economist support for his 2000 win.

What Powell is preaching here, what he is cheerleading with this speech, is just the sort of thing the antichrist needs to ascend his throne - one world, one government, one religion.

I highly recommend Escape the Coming Night(Note this cover: It is of the two World Trade Center towers in flames...book published in 1999...this cover has been replaced now.)

The "Sustainable(controlable) Development" concept has always gone hand-in-hand with "Active Population Control" discussions and implementations.

You can't have one without the other. IMHO

But – but – we have to have a one world government or we won’t be able to join the Federation of Planets!
