[history]
It was being played as a possible racial slap -- but it turns out that the three watermelons delivered to new Police Chief Earl Sanders the other day were nothing more than a well-intentioned gift from a Vietnamese court interpreter.

""Brutal, absolutely brutal. I can't believe somebody would do something like that, in this city," another cop said.
Williams called the watermelon delivery a racist act and said he hopes the perpetrator is exposed. He said he had no idea who set the woman up but that some on the force would be looking into the issue."</P

"She was just trying to show a little kindness..."
Well, that won't get you far in the New Progressive Democratic world of modern America.
The personal is the political...and vice versa; therefore, no good deed can go unpunished.
Orwell was an optimist, remember. ;^)

Looks like aruanan was right, but it was a Vietnamese woman and not a Chinese woman.
"Well, since the one who delivered the melons was an Asian woman, more likely Chinese than not, it wouldn't necessarily have racist overtones since the Chinese eat more melons per capita than just about anyone else. She'd just be giving him something that she herself really enjoyed. Nothing more than goodwill."

I hope San Francisco has crisis counselors available to deal with this "brutal act." At least one cop might never completely recover from being exposed to this type of "terror."
I still don't understand why anyone would get upset about receiving watermellons. I like them.

Ha ha ha.Well, the Vietnamese are the most Chinese of all Southeast Asia, the country in the past having been a southern province of China. No wonder they like melons. I guess the police chief has egg foo young on his face or whatever the Vietnamese equivalent is.

It is amazing how many uses we have for the various wild cards in our daily lives. How did we ever play the game of life without them.
The "Race" card
The "Anti-Semite" card
The "Anti-Woman" card
The "Anti-Christian" card
It is getting so that there are more "victim" cards than anything else.

This whole incident is hilarious.

It really makes me chuckle how certain black people now have an aversion to watermelons. So if you're balck and eat watermelons does that make you an Uncle Tom? Oh brother!

I wish someone would send me a watermelon.

San Francisco's police department has a poor record of solving homicides. Reading about the hubbub these melons caused; I can see why.
You could say that the SFPD was stymied
