HTML Sandbox is locked - Requesting HTML
Information, Links, etc. for FReeper Newbies
No.....this is not a request for help for myself, lol ! This is for folks that are new to FreeRepublic.com that need a place to practice their HTML before posting on the regular threads. When I see a new FReeper that posts an article and the first reply is "Paragraphs are our friends" (or the likes), I will send them links to the NEWCOMERS: Welcome Center and Information thread and the HTML Bootcamp (Cyber patriot training) thread. This way, they may become oriented to FreeRepublic and their posts will go up and be better received by the FReeper audience.
Perhaps in all the recent changes FreeRepublic has undergone, I missed something? When I search for the "Sandbox" I find quite a few of them, but they are all "locked read-only". I'm trying to find out if there is an active "Sandbox" for folks to practice their HTML skills. If there is not one now, can someone post one? Perhaps there is a "Sandbox" posted now under a different name, or a place outside of FreeRepublic that one can practice their HTML posting skills. Bottom line, I think you see I'm looking for a place that I can direct new folks to so they can practice HTML.
Last, if you have any links to HTML instruction, etc., or anything that might be helpful to FReeper newbies (or helpful to anyone for that matter), please post them here.
Oh, btw. Please ping this to any FReepers that
you think might be able to offer assistance.
Please bump this thread for me. Thank you!
is so old it's locked, too, but it's as close as I ever got to penning an "operator's manual" for Free Republic.
( Another yet-to-be-realized goal... )
Seeking help for new FReepers, please pardon this ping!
If you can help by providing links, information, etc., I
would appreciate it a lot!
Even just a bump is a lot of help (hint! hint!) ![]()
We were all new FReepers at one time, remember?.....
Thank you for your help and for indulging me this ping!
Maybe there should be a permanent place on Free Republic just for this purpose...a running thread in the General Interest section, for example.
That is a good idea. I know there are occasions when I would like a place to "Text" a post. I used to use the sandbox, but now I can't.
You tEsT yourself using the Posting Comment 'Preview' button. If it's not correct there, scroll down and correct your 'Comment' section or hit 'Edit' at the bottom of the 'Posting Page' and go back and correct it.
michigander's page above will open in a new window, so you can use it as a reference while you're FReeping.
Cheers.

Hope it works!!
Not sure if this will help others, here are two links that helped me a lot.
The first is a quick list to HTML tags along with brief explainations and examples. Here's the link
The second is a pretty popular place and may even have been posted to this thread before I got around to it but here it is anyway. It isn't just one HTML guide or tutprial but a page with a dozen or so links. It's on the internet at Pittsburgh Three Rivers Free Net. Actually I find LOTs of information there!
The top link on the page is pretty good (Barebones Guide) And make sure to scroll to the bottom and check out The Tutorials section. Here's the link.
Hope this helps.

All you have to do is put your HTML on a notepad file then "save as" a .htm file type instead of saving it as a .txt file. After saving it as a .htm it'll look like an internet shortcut. Just double click it and your browser will open it as it will appear when posted.
I get $60 an hour for tech support, you owe me $2.
I tried playing with your link and I think this is the right place?:

(BTW, what's that little thingie next to your smiley face? I can't quite make it out.)
Just downland the software and type what you want to say and the software will type up the codes for ya .. then just copy and paste it into your post
What can I say .. I'm a lazy freeper .. LOL
Good Morning MeeknMing

Look for where it says "copy image location" and just LEFT click on that. It will automatically be cut for you to paste into the quotes <img src=" > (had to leave out one of the quotations for this to show up.)
Yes, that's true. Alternative is from browser pull-down menu
click on "View" then "Source". Thank you!
I found an old HTML page on FR that had a link to where you could find "View Partial Source". I have loved that little trick ever since.
You can highlight a section of a page and view the source HTML code for it. Saves ya alot of headache in the long run.

Thanks for mentioning that in #6, spared me the trouble...
A "lazy" way I exploit Web Developer's Tools is to "view partial source" of an interesting-looking HTML effect, hilite & copy to a desktop file, and simply copy it from there when desired. Saves a lot of scribbling on file cards....
Oh you mean this little fella here?---------->

It's this, lol !:

Sure is - I'm glad I posted this. The links here will
not only allow me to help new FReepers, they'll help
me too! lol !
MnM, you missed the rest of my post - "...this thread has such good info, I think I might "bookmark" it to my homepage....now, how do I do dat? : ) TIA : )" Seriously, how does one "bookmark?" Thanks.

Hmm? When I right click on a pic, I don't have the "copy image location" option.
I use Internet Explorer 5.5. Is that different than yours? If so, would that be why?
I right click on a picture, left click on properties then copy the "URL Address". Then paste that into the graph template as you say.
