..the quickest way to lose a war is wait for the first punch then fight....

What 'first punch', MFH? Sheesh. Iraq can't even secure her own borders. Iraq doesn't even control her own airspace. Iraq was a military punching bag, during Desert Storm.

'First punch', for crying out loud. And from you, known here as a rational type. Fair dinkum, the most distressing aspect of this Iraq idiocy has been to observe that much of our side is just as susceptible to Bush's spin as the soccer moms were for Clinton's.

..why you're nothin but a damn appeaser. A yellow-belly...

John, I won't dignify this idiocy with a serious response. I might point out that your posts sound more than usually silly when you're watchingTrue Grit while freeping. Seeya pilgrim.

I appreciate the compliment. However I call it gut instinct this time. I am not looking forward to seeing Israeli's slaughtered in the tens of thousands. I think Saddam is going to unleash everything he can before U.S. jets pound him to kingdom come.

Wrong movie -- Patton was my model.

I'll back off on the coward bait, but the appeasement smack I must stick with. This is stud poker and any show of weakness now will only make the Saddam problem more difficult later as well as emboldening the other Islamic power players just as the US hasty retreat from Mogadishu and the failure to finish the job in 1991 led to the situation in which we find ourselves now.

Thats all I can say on this. I really can't debate the question of whether Saddam is evil. Either this is self-evident to you or nothing I can say is going to change your mind.

*I don't think Iraq is worth one dead American, Brit, or Aussie boy.

Well, is it worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dead Americans, Brits, and Aussies if we don't act until it's too late, and remove any doubt of his WMD capabilities?

Any relation to Chamberlain?

Then why risk it?

Have all other options been explored? Why is a massive invasion necessary? You can't tell me that with all the incredible surveillance and technology capabilities of the US military, that they can't take him and his retinue out with one or two strategically placed cruise missiles.

..exactly...propaganda goes both ways...

Yes, it does. Bush has his own unquestioning soccer moms, and there's a coupla Volvo station wagons full of them, right here on this thread.

..another girlie man from OZ - when the muslims raped the Aussie women last spring, did you chalk it up "impaired cultural differences brought on by their dismay at Australia's close ties to America?"...

Sorry to disappoint you, but Sydney's Muslim rape gang have been caught, charged and convicted. The ringleader was sentenced to 55 year's jail, with a non-parole period of 40 years, last week.

So go find another unrepresentative stereotype to slander a billion Muslims with.

..during WW2 in the pacific we did just this very thing to many of the islands in the Solomons to cut down on loses and to break the enemies will, we starved many islands during those campaigns, this is no different...

It is totally different, because in the Pacific island campaign there weren't a heap of innocent civilians involved, like there would be in your siege of Baghdad scenario. Can you imagine how the world's media would use footage produced by your 'starve 'em out!' scenario to damage the US? All you and the rest of the keyboard Pattons are doing is pushing neutral countries into China's sphere.

I don't have any doubt. He hasn't got any; or at least, none that can threaten the US. What he's got is a bunch of 1970s-era Soviet military 'technology' which will be even more outclassed in DSII than it was in Desert Storm I. This whole WMD crock is starting to remind me of President Reagan's 'Khmer Rouge's chemical weapons', which the CIA eventually declared was bee urine. At least (from memory) the Gipper had the character to fess up, and tell the American people he had inadvertently misled them. Hopefully Mr Bush can take that precedent on board?

Damn right I'll admit that. I HATE WAR! I think every possible option should be explored before one country attacks another. That certainly hasn't happened in the case of the planned US attack on Iraq.

Byron,
Please stop the hand wringing. Firstly, there are ways to allow civilians out of the city before we close the gates. Secondly, the world media didn't do squat to shift much of the worlds' opinion when the Balkans imploded, a little whining and a bunch of "Please Uncle Sugar in American can you please help us clean out our outhouse again!". Thirdly, NEVER TAKE GENERAL PATTONS NAME IN VAIN AGAIN! :) . Fourth, any body out there that is still neutral after what happened to us on 9-11 is an active bogie on my radar. Target them and put them on the Christmas list, because they're next!
No hard feelings or anything, this is not personal, this is just business, a deadly business but business none-the-less.
My father who served this country through 2 wars put it quite succinctly many years ago when we had a little talk about the birds and the bees and the world and stuff. I Quote,'Son,there are just some Sons of Bitches that need Killing!', and when he said it there wasn't a single bit of hatred, sarcasm, or malice in his voice. He meant it to his core, because I know he had been to Hell and lived to tell about. We Are Noone To Be Trifled With! And I believe "W" meant what he said, "Dead or Alive, it makes no difference to me!"

Yeah? Let's hear 'em. I certainly can't think of any.
