WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 The defeat of Representative Cynthia A. McKinney in a Democratic primary on Tuesday the second loss this summer by a prominent black House incumbent to a more moderate black challenger carries implications for black politicians, and perhaps others as well, that go far beyond any single Congressional district. Continues.
================================================================
Cynthia McKinney gets the boot -- Good riddance.
For hate politics, Cynthia McKinney was second-to-none.
The rabble-rousing, moon-strucked screwball from Georgia's 4th Congressional District, whose singular achievement was lifting race-baiting demagoguery to virtual art form, is a walking, talking toxic trash-mouth, a gall and wormwood display of the twisted, crackbrain politics of the militant left.
The daffy crank, whose roster of creepy fans reads like a who's-who of political bizarro-land, went down in flames Tuesday night, crushed in a landslide upset by upstart challenger, Denise Majette, a former state Judge from DeKalb County.
Few gave the 47-year-old mother of two, and native of Brooklyn, New York, much of a chance. She had little money and scant name recognition. Unseating a 5-term incumbent is never easy, yet McKinney, who famously accused the President of complicity in 9/11 terror-for-profit, was a lightening rod for controversy -- and a magnet for campaign donations from groups with known links to terrorism. Her polarizing rhetoric, her paranoid, delusional conspiracy theories made her an unbearable embarrassment to the good people of the 4th District.
They hence gave her the boot, big time, 58-42.
While the media grudgingly concedes McKinney's demise was blowback for her outlandish remarks, let's not forget a piece of recent history.
It's the height of hypocrisy for Big Media to distance itself from wacky McKinney, especially after harping on the same string that landed her in hot water to begin with.
Fact: McKinney accused the President with pre-9/11 knowledge.
Fact: The media, after it was disclosed in May that U.S. intelligence, weeks before 9/11, had warned of possible al-Qaeda hijackings, accused the President with pre-9/11 knowledge.
Ah-ha! So BUSH KNEW about 9/11 before 9/11!!! Treason! Treason! Treason!
Smelling blood in the water, Big Media went on the warpath, in essence accusing the President of monstrous cruelty for political gain -- or colossal incompetence for failing to read the C.I.A. tea leaves.
"What did the President know, and when did he know it?", NBC's Katie Curic would ask on the Today show. The Watergate-era innuendo reverberated on Capitol Hill, with Dick Gephardt leading the charge. Tom Daschle demanded that Bush fork over the August 6th C.I.A. briefing memo, insinuating it contained the smoking gun.
Bush "knew that al-Qaeda was planning to hijack a U.S. airline" CNN's drama queen, Judy Woodruff, declared, feigned horror on her face.
Hillary! got in on the fun, too, urging Bush to "come before the American people at the earliest possible time to answer the questions so many New Yorkers and Americans are asking". Rollicking on the floor of the Senate, she flapped a copy of the New York Post's now-infamous 'BUSH KNEW!' cover-header.
In the drive to topple the President, nothing was beyond the pale, nothing too sacrosanct -- even bereaved loved ones and friends of 9/11 victims were fair game.
But the media crusade, in the end, was a miserable failure. The attacks on the President sparked a backlash, with polls showing Bush's job ratings undiminished, or inching higher.
Cynthia McKinney, in short, is a poster child for the liberal media, as well as the Democrat Party, and no amount of self-serving media historical revisionism will change that.
Moreover, her decisive defeat is a powerful shot-across-the-bow. The message: Attacks on the President will exact a heavy price, even in overwhelmingly Democrat districts.
Oh, by the way, Cynthia's dad, Rep. Billy McKinney, may well be next. The veteran state legislator faces a run-off on September 10, having garnered less than 50% of the vote on Tuesday. He sees a 'Jewish plot' behind her daughter's travails. "Jews bought everybody. That's J-E-W-S", he said before Tuesday's election.
Like father, like daughter -- both are certifiable, both belong in a nuthouse.
Good riddance. Anyway, that's...
My two cents..

I could not read the Times article, but if they are going to talk about "new tactics" for black politics the smartest thing would be to devote more time to the "other" party - the GOP. When you lose, then you lose big when you are a wholly owned subsidiary of one party. Its called hedging your bets.
However, I bet the NY Times article just said they should lie and be more deceptive next time.
Amen good post, but let us not forget about all those contributions she recieved on 9/11 from the arabs.

The McKinney Files.... |
Many of us who have little contact with Blacks thought that McKinney is typical and had a huge following. This election proves that she does not. They will try to spin it by saying cross over Republicans defeated McKinney. But they did not. There were plenty enough black voters in the district to elect McKinney no matter what the white Republicans did. The simple truth is that the black population of that district did not want to reelect her and didn't. They did not come out to vote and some that did voted against her.
Jesse Jackson was for McKinney. Farakon was for McKinney. But the blacks in the district were not.
Look at how McKinney misread other black leaders. They stayed in the background and did not offer their support. McKinney decided to recycle the tapes from previous campaigns. She was certain that Andrew Young and others would not dare say a word if she used their old endorsement tapes. But they did. That said the local Atlanta black leadership knew she had lost the support of the blacks in her district. So there was no downside and some upside to revealing she had used their old tapes to imply current support.
This election will put some fear in many on the left and the right. Now is certainly not the time for divisive politics.
The message was very clear. Politicians must work together or the people will elect those who will work together. Those who have been critical of Bush for not getting into fights with Tom Daschle need to look at these returns. DAschle and McAullife have attacked Bush much like McKinney attacked her opponent and Bob Barr attacke his. Bush has responded much like the winners in the election did.
If the National Democrats like Daschle and McAullife did not get the message delivered by both black and white voters to both Barr and McKinney, they are in for a real surprise come November.
This can be the October surprise for the RATS
ROFLOL, don't hold back now, tell us how you really feel!
I love it! Thanks John.
