Well, Dan Rather said that the New York Times is "middle of the road" too!

You are so right, and she gets excused for trying too hard to be macho, when all she does is point out how puerile and mean spirited she can be when she needs a quip. Her hubris is getting the better of her.
To: habs4ever
Does someone have the exact quote, in context, of what Ann said?
I hate to rely on a paraphrase from scum like Liz Smith.

Liz is a goner! No one cares what she says!

I have a hard time believing most Americans would wish the pain and horror of the OKC bombing on anyone, even those they disagree with. After all, no one is claiming the liberals who died in the WTC attacks deserved to die.

Taunt or not it was not only reprehensible it was strategically stupid to make this comment. For someone who has a reputation of intelligence and wit, Coulter has given the other side a point of attack that cannot be defended.
Now the real liberal media has her own words to discredit her ideas.Note he wording, "My only problem with McVeigh..." What the hell kind of statement is that?
Coulter and those who defend her statement on this board are giving the Main Enemy the ability to paint the whole grass roots conservative movement in America as insanely insensitive, at best, and dangerous at worst. She, stupidly, has given evidence of Clinton's assertion that conservative's caused OKC. It won't matter that it's not true, perception is reality. Liberal media will insure that the perception left by Coulter will be hammered into America's consciousness before election day.

I haven't lost all respect for her, but the remark was very ill-considered. It gives her enemies the exact weapon they've been seeking. It will be used against her ruthlessly to illustrate conservative "mean spiritedness."
My wife has a rule that I try -- TRY! -- to follow. If it feels good to say or write something, you probably shouldn't. When I've practiced it, the rule has saved me a lot of problems later on. There's no need to give your opponents weapons to use against you.

Lileks (www.lileks.com) got it pretty right today about Coulter:
I think most anti-idiotarians have written her off - if they didnt dislike her for other reasons already - and have no desire to be associated with her. They smell a publicity seeker, a tone-deaf anvil-whacker: Yeah, Anne, Whatever. Well, let me be on record that this is an appalling and inexcusable remark, and it turns my stomach. Of course she was being outrageous to make a point, but it was a stupid point, stupidly made, and it has the effect of making those indifferent to her presence in the ranks wish she would dry up and blow away. McVeigh blew up a f*cking daycare center, Anne; that ought to be your main regret, not that he failed to drive a shard of glass through Maureen Dowds eyesocket. No doubt some on the left winced when Mikey Moore agonized over the terrorists decision to strike New York, because it hadnt voted for Bush. Same thing. Cheap shot, loud mouth, small mind.

Hey, its ok to object to her excess hyperbole, particularly when its a gross and vile analogy.Try not to excuse her stupid statement by bringing Clinton into this.Let this stand or fall on its own merits. So far, it stinks.
There are times when she blows a gasket and this is one.She ought to stop playing a caricature of a right wing quipster/warrior and act like a sensible human being. And part of that should be to apologize for such a stupid statement and admit her mistake, or will her pride not allow that?

They'd be shocked to realize that most of America would agree (with Ann Coulter)
I always have a good laugh over leftist intelligentsia elites shocked and surprised by the fact that they're vehmently despised by normal people making up most of the country. It's kind of like that time Hillary was booed off the stage in NYC, and her horrified lackeys just couldn't understand how the peasants could not love The Queen. ROTFLOL!!!

I LIKED THIS ONE TOO!
I asked Ms. Coulter if she wanted a world without liberals.
"Yes! Theyve nearly wrecked the country. Off with them!"

It was an off-the-cuff remark she made to the interviewer while walking down Fifth Avenue, talking about the Times.
"How about all those very unflattering pictures they like running of conservatives, I [the interviewer] asked. "Oh yea, oh yeah," Ms. Coulter said. "They ran not one but two photos of George Herbert Walker Bush throwing up in Japan. Not one, one was not enough! Two photos of that. Is your tape recorder running? Turn it on! I got something to say."
Then she said: "My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."
I told her to be careful [interviewer].
"You're right, after 9/11 I shouldn't say that," she said, spotting a cab and grabbing it.
I [Bernard] groaned when I read it. I realized it was just a tossed-off comment, a glib distillation of her contempt for the Times and its bias, not a real wish for death and destruction. But it will probably be her undoing. This was an indefensible attack on the Big Media and it will be deployed ruthlessly against her and all conservatives.

She needs to apologize, admit she was wrong, and move on.

We headed down Fifth Avenue and talked about The New York Times. I told her I usually read The Times before bed, because it depresses me.
"Oh, it totally gins me up, it works like coffee," she said. "I read it like a wolf."
Then discussion about Bush and McVeigh follows...

If you read "Slander", you would be able to see the reasoning behind the statement made by AC in regards to McVeigh and the NYT building.
Her assertion(correctly) that the liberal media will attack ANYONE with any conservative ideas and not bring real discussion into the mater is hammered over and over, with direct quotes from the NYT attacking Reagan, Bush, and other notable conservatve leaders, BUT never is anything said about the abhorrent behavior of such notable liberals as Kennedy, Clinton(both Bubba and the Witch), Barney Frank, Al Sharpton, and a host of other liberal socialists.
Are you saying it's "OK" for the liberal elitists to call for the death of the House Impeachment managers but not for one conservative to use the same tactic on the liberals?
Ann calls them on the way they present THEIR point of view on the rest of the world and how the masses are easily led, and how the 'thinkers' in the country dismiss those point's of view.
The NYT thinks that we are too 'stupid' (one of the NYT favorite words describing conservatives) to think for ourselves, and can only attack who we are and not our ideas.
Ann did fine.

lileks and Ian Punnet can go suck an egg....
I would also like to know in what context Ann said this...
