I recall reading, very possibly in a post here, that WNV emerged in the U.S. and Israel (and I think Saudi, if I recall correctly) at basically the same time.
I remember thinking about our "buddy" in Iraq at the time. Also heard, understand I can't verify the source but I caught it here as well, that Castro knew something about this virus, for whatever reason.
No, I don't have stock in a tin foil manufacturer. Just thinking out of the box a bit.
Q. If a person contracts West Nile virus, does that person develop a natural immunity to future infection by the virus?
A. It is assumed that immunity will be lifelong; however, it may wane in later years.
When I brought her here to live with us this past winter I was concerned she might get West Nile here on Long Island, where we have had the problem for some time.
It sure is spreading quickly.
West Nile Death Count Reaches 11
By BRANDON LOOMIS, Associated Press Writer
An Illinois man who died of West Nile virus one of 11 nationwide to succumb to the illness this year was in poor health that would have worsened the effects of the virus, public health officials said.Sam Basalone, 67, had emphysema and recurring heart troubles, and he had suffered kidney failure in 1996 that required a transplant followed by dialysis, his wife, Shirley Basalone, told The Associated Press.
He also couldn't stand air conditioning, so the retired used car salesman slept on a patio bed at his home in the Chicago suburb of Westmont, which left him exposed to the mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus, she said.
