The Feel-Good Approach To Sept. 11
Washington Post ^ | 08/25/2002 | George F. Will

The National Education Association, the largest teachers union, usually concentrates on convincing legislators, against ample contrary evidence, that increasing the number and pay of teachers is certain to improve schools. But now the NEA has gone into wartime mode and become a sensitivity tutor for parents and teachers. The result makes one wish the NEA would stick to misleading legislators.

NEA healing tools? Still pathetic, even with a week gone by to dull the sharp edges.

What's needed is fuel to stoke hot the fires of righteous indignation. If we begin our second year in the war on terrorists the NEA Way, God help us, for we are doomed.

I've so far stayed away from commenting on this. The reason for that is that it makes me too angry.

"Angry" isn't sufficient to describe my reaction.

I think the NEA is, quite literally, a greater threat to this country than bin Laden is. It needs to be destroyed somehow. I'm now sure how to do that, but I think it needs to happen.

I don't think vouchers will do it. They will help, but the NEA is too strong and too resouceful. It will co-opt them if they get too far.

I'm really not sure. But I do believe something needs to change here.

Thank you for posting this. I always respect George Will's take on subjects, and I am particularly interested in this subject. However....

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE find some other source than the Washington Pest for Will's column. It appears in over 200 papers, every time. The Pest website is a "trap" site, meaning once you click there, the back button on your browser will NOT bring you back to where you started. Including browser problems, it took me 20 minutes to get from there back to here.

Also, the Pest website is a "crap" site, which folks from FreeRepublic should not patronize if they can possibly avoid it.

As for the merits of Will's analysis, I thoroughly agree, and published similar comments about the National "Edukashun" Association in my latest book, second link below.

I closed the window, and voila, here I am. Works like a charm. Even if it doesn't, restarting FR is easier than getting stuck in the no back out pages.

Right click on the back button will get you to your linear history of your browser (latest to last), then just click on whatever page you want.

The NEA says the lessons to be learned from the terrorist attacks are: "Appreciating and getting along with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures, the importance of anger management and global awareness."

The REAL lesson to be learned is that there is a sinister, totally evil and Nazi-like force that is loose in the world--islamic supremacism!!!! And that there are mingy little muslim shills and enablers like the the NEA who are weakening our resolve to fight this evil with their pseudo-psychological propaganda.

It is HIGH TIME for us to push these scummy little wimpifiers out of the way, and to finally feel the anger at the blood-soaked muslim butchers that is the natural, human and fully-justified reaction to Sept 11th!!!! This anger is the first step for us to finally fight the enemy in an effective way!

TOH is absolutely correct. I feel soooo sorry for the kids in government schools today. By graduation time their brains will be complete mush but they will sense nothing wrong with being that way.

I am convinced the liberals have mounted a concerted campaign to dumb us down enough that their eventual dictatorial takeover will be very smooth with little objection. I'm thinking 2025-2030 or this. Hope I'll be gone by then (isn't it sad that I would make a comment like that?).

And the sheeple just continue to graze...
