(HAMILTON, AUGUST 21) Forrester for Senate campaign manager Bill Pascoe - responding to the release of a new poll by WABC-TV in New York showing that Doug Forrester leads Robert Torricelli by a 48-37 percent margin - today issued the following statement:

Yet another new poll, this one commissioned by WABC-TV in New York City, shows Doug Forrester leading Robert Torricelli by a double-digit margin - 48-37 percent. This poll, which was in the field August 17-19, confirms an earlier KYW-TV Philadelphia poll and our own internal survey from last week - the KYW-TV poll showed the margin at 13 points (48-35) and our own survey showed the margin at 12 points (47-35).

"Hang on New Jersey - only 76 more days to go. Help is on the way!"

Yeah, but you can find all kinds of reports about how President Bush's approval rating has 'plummeted' to 65%. LOL

What's really interesting about Forrester is that I had to do a Google search to find a newspaper article that states his party affiliation. Nowhere on his site did I find the fact that he's a Republican. I was in doubt when I read this in the full press release:
“But the fact of the matter is that Mr. Torricelli’s troubles stem not merely from his failure to be truthful to his colleagues in the Senate and the voters of New Jersey – no, far worse for him is the fact that he is out of step with the voters of New Jersey on issues such as a woman’s right to choose, protecting our environment, ending gun violence, and prescription drugs. And when New Jersey voters learn THAT, they will send Mr. Torricelli to an early retirement.

That stuff sounds pretty much like a list a Democrat would put out. Perhaps that's what it takes to get elected as a Republican in NJ. I suppose he'll be useful as a means of getting Republicans back into control of the Senate, but otherwise sounds like another John Warner in the making.

Torch voted FOR partial-birth abortion so I'm sure that's what Forrester is talking about. I think it's time that Republicans start talking about environment protection for the people vs the envirowhacko approach that passes for policy today.

Ending gun violence is only done with stiffer prosecution of gun crimes, but since we know who that is we also know why the Demos are opposed.

The Republicans actually passed a prescription drug program that was vetoed by the Zipper for political reasons. Thanks again to our responsible press for burying that story.

New Jersey rejects rat.

No media coverage--the media is jumping out of windows.

We don't need no stinkin' committee report--

Mr. Toricelli has cashed his cheque.

Undecideds break heavily in favor of the challenger. This race is now Forrester's to lose.

I have been on the case of Robert ("the Un-Bribed") Torricelli since two months after he first oozed his way into the Senate. He campaigned on support for the Balanced Budget Amendment, yet when the first vote came up with him in the Senate, he cast the deciding vote against it. Of course there are now many more reasons to want him evicted from the Senate.

My latest book mentions Torricelli three times. It does not focus on him; several other corrupt Presidents (both Republican and Democrat) receive more mention than him. Still, the Senator from New Jersey is this year's poster child for sleazoid politicians. (See second link, below.)

It's still early and the Dems haven't used their walking around money yet. Remember, the dead vote in Newark, Trenton and Camden. And the lame vote in Princeton!!!!

I am in NJ now, and the Torch is deluging the airwaves with stories designed to pull at the heartstrings of the seasoned citizens, claiming to be at the forefront of prescription drug coverage, social security reform etc.

I hope the NJ seniors are smarter and more morally driven than to consider voting for this louse.

I have read a couple of letters to the editor where the writer was a Democrat that was going to vote for Forrester. They were against Torricelli's ethics. The amazing thing was that these were even printed in a NJ paper and that there were no rebuttals printed with them.

He campaigned on support for the Balanced Budget Amendment, yet when the first vote came up with him in the Senate, he cast the deciding vote against it.

Actually, about six Democrats were the "deciding vote". I believe that almost all of them had publicly supported the the BBA at one time or another. But, that was an empty promise when there was no chance of it passing.

When it became a real possibility, the Democrats recruited just enough Senators from safe seats to scuttle it. Had Torricelli refused, they would have found another.

The fix was in.

The Jersey papers have been very good. My son lives there and tells me they and the Philly papers have been killing the Torch. For those who insist on seeing the dark side, ask yourself if, right now, would you rather be the torch or Forrester?

Have no fear, Forrester is a solid Republican. His campaign manager, Bill Pascoe, is known for press releases that work on several levels, and I've got it on good authority that the one in question -- which lists a laundry list of "typically" Dem "issues" -- abortion, guns, environment, prescription drugs -- is Pascoe's way of drawing the media into an interesting colloquy -- to wit, WHICH candidate is ACTUALLY in the mainstream in NJ, and which one is NOT?

Example: Forrester is pro-choice early in the pregnancy, but supports parental notification, opposes partial birth abortion, and opposes taxpayer funding of abortion. On each of those sub-issues, he rests with a majority of NJ voters, while Torch can only make that claim on the first of the four sub-issues. So it is TORCH who is TRULY "outside the mainstream," and the Forrester camp is playing defense by playing offense.

Besides which, Torch is notoriously thin-skinned (as is his campaign manager, Ken Snyder, who is ALMOST as well known for yelling at reporters as Torch is for dating other men's wives). And putting out release after release charging HIM with being "out of the mainstream" -- and using EXACTLY the same language that Torch is using to say that about Forrester -- COULD just be another way of trying to provoke the Torch into doing something he'd regret later.

Of course, when you have the morals of a snake, there's not much that you actually regret. But maybe it'll work anyway.
