It would be much better to stop donating to large organized global charities.

There are no doubt better uses for your donations much closer to home. There are poor children in need of a warm coat or some elderly person in need of some company, a school library in need of some new books.......be creative with your time and money and make sure you know exactly where your money is being used.

"This is a joke, right? The NEA is not really advocating this waste of time are they?"

Of course it is : it IS a union. The NEA also backed Al Gore...that ought to be proof enough they're serious in this idiocy.

"I'm sorry to stir the pot on this but I am compelled to put some of the blame on dubbya for his lack of leadership on this whole 911/War on Terrorism."

IMO, the president's leadership since 9-11 has been strong and extremely effective in calming a nation which was dangerously close to stampeding like a herd of spooked cattle. Even the less rabid left-wing Democrats don't argue that.

The president is not the union's keeper. The only chance of changing the NEA's stupid social collectivist policies is for the members themselves to stand up and publically defy them. Then, if necessary, take it to the Labor Department...unfortunately, stupidity and self destructiveness are not against the law, so they'll have to find evidence of illegal activities or it won't go far.

Better yet, all or most teachers could simply quit the NEA....

In a sick way, I hope teachers do say offensive and stupid things to students on 9/11. Conservatives should wire their kids when they send them to school that day.

"Is that true? Does the Red Cross know, or care, that NEA gives credit to them here in this way?"

Yeah, the Red Cross knows. And yeah, they are probably doing this on the donations we made after 9-11. I immediately gave to the Red Cross after 9-11. I've regretted it ever since O'Reilly blew the whistle on them. I'd very much like to know what "geography" and "math" have to do with the 'teaching' kids to deal with disaster.

I'm glad I don't have any kids left in school now, otherwise, I'd keep them home on 9-11.

Reg Weaver is the new president of the NEA. Reg Weaver hype excerpt:

"As with most outgoing voice-mail messages, his tells you that he's not around to pick up your call, then he says, "tell you what," and invites you to leave a message. That little "tell you what" is a small thing, but it's a wonderful glimpse into Weaver's personality. He sees there's a problem -- he's not there to take your call -- but he's going to offer a solution."

....I mean, DUH!! As if no human being but old Reg is smart enough to leave a message after two decades of answering machines?? ( He also doesn't like the president's "No Child Left Behind" legislation so there must be something good for kids in there )

"there will be a universal desire to share our feelings and experiences with those around us"

Yeah, I like to share my feelings with Osama & Co., one 230 grain .45 slug at a time.

They're evil. Kill them before they kill us.

Liberals don't understand this though. Truth is relative. No one is evil. They just have a different point of view.

(My old boss used to constantly say that 'perception is reality' I would alternately cringe or (want to) roll my eyes every time I heard that.)

I'll defend The Hobbit being on the reading list. It is one of the greatest works of fiction in the 20th century. It not only has great literary value but it is also one the best works representing solid Christian values.

" The Saviour of Middle-earth turns out to be One who works through the love and freedom of his creatures, and who forgives us our trespasses "as we forgive those who trespass against us," using even our mistakes and the designs of the enemy . . . to bring about our good. The ending of The Lord of the Rings is a triumph of Providence over Fate, but it is also a triumph of Mercy, in which free will, supported by grace, is fully vindicated."

The above quote is by Caldecott and included in a very favorable review by David Mills of Touchstone Magazine, a Christian Journal.

BTW: I homeschool, and the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings is on our reading list right alongside C.S. Lewis who became a close friend of Tolkien. It also is said Tolkien was partly responsible for Lewis's return to Christianity.

I agree with your point but I stand by my assertion that W needs to be the point man on whipping up sentiment against Sadaam, which you'd think would not be that hard. Afterall the evidence against Sadaam is overwhelmingly convincing that he is the devil incarnate, yet no one is doing PR for an effort to oust his sorry keester. Heck, most of his own people probably would dance in the streets at the occasion of his demise. What I'm talking about is not so much the NEA but rather the lack of much momentum on gaining support on morally justified case of killing Sadaam

..I was unaware that UAW dictated to Ford what vehicle styles and features its members would be fastening to this years models. Does AFL-CIO mandate what cargo it will take from what manufacturers?....So where does NEA get any authority over any state concerning lesson plans?
Here is a clue to the NEA...Try Teaching the Constitution as an Honorable and Fitting Tribute to all who perished on that day...you know that silly little document that has stood the test of time , and along with God's guiding hands, has brought this nation greatness.

...Perhaps teaching the American Constitution is now considered offensive by some?....

Just a reminder to those who might not have thought of donating close to home.

We have always donated directly to those in need when we became aware of their situation.

There is a web site for parents, teachers, and interested persons to speak out on the issues affecting the school district in which I reside.

I posted the article about the NEA and 9/11. Here's what some of the teachers/staff had to say about that article I posted:

"I am a staff member and a dvea member. Not once has the topic of teaching this way come up, I have never even heard of it. I am in contact with some of the dvea leadership and once again, the so-called "nea plan" hasn't come up. So I would like one of two things to happen. Pull our head out before you post, or for all the people who actually take this serious, it's just not true. Stop trying to make issues when there not there. If you guys are as right as you think you are, you shouldn't have to create issues. As for your title,"I'm glad the teachers have spoken, we haven't even heard, so we haven't spoken out. NO ONE IS TELLING US TO TEACH THIS WAY ABOUT 9/11."

And another comment to me:

"It is only one person that is doing these "reformulated" N.E.A. postings. The aim is to divide teachers from their professional association. This person does not like N.E.A., and thinks that they are doing s good job of poisoning the organization...NOT. I have found that trying to respond to this person is a waste of time."

To which I replied, "Why does this anger come out toward one person? Why does it not come out against what the NEA wants you to do? Are you saying that you agree with what the NEA would like to see discussed in the class? Do they make you proud when they come out stating what they are for/against? Seems to me that they cause more division than I ever could."

And another response to my above post:

"To Outraged, What they are saying is- just because the NEA administrators say something about a certain subject does not mean that all members will follow- that is a national organization- our teachers here in DVUSD are great. Listen to your teachers- help them, support them- do not attack them for something that is out of their control. Unless you hear or see first hand that a teacher in this district is teaching something "out of hand" then leave them be. Personally, I do not even open up the NEA postings. Why? they do not influence anything here in this district."

You err in thinking I am throwing off on the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings.

We have all read & enjoyed the books, including my 6th grader, who is working her way through. We enjoyed the movie, the music soundtrack, the calendar. Yes, I am well aware of Christian aspect.

However, what the hobbits have to do with Sept 11 is way beyond me. Given the Christian tie-in, it is even more a curious choice. Same with the music on their list.

This is the NEA saying they think teachers are unimaginative & must be micro-managed. This is why we do not attend public school, either. Best wishes to you & yours.

They tied it to 9/11? I didn't realize that was your point. No it makes no sense unless they view the Hobbit as an allegory for striking out and destroying the Great Satan (Smaug) or some such nonsense. Mostly it is obsfuscation I think.

peace and best wishes,

I posted this:

just sad
You are known by your associations
Mon Aug 26 22:49:33 2002 65.69.1.203

How many times do I tell my children that they are judged by the company they keep.

You make it clear you do not agree with the NEA (national), yet you not only associate with them, you fund them!

How responsible is it to ignore what YOUR leaders are telling the world about what YOU should teach. You may choose to ignore them but YOU are reflected in their policy proclamations.

Your argument sounds much like children "Mom, I like to hang out with the gang on the corner. Yeah the big guys smoke pot but I just ignore them, though I do give them my pocket change every week, otherwise they won't let me hang out."

Seriously though, the NEA position on 9/11 is not as sad as seeing teachers being run over by the NEA.

More power to the teachers! not the NEA.

hope hits helps! (homeschool dad)
