I heartily recommend (British historian) Robert Conquest's books for anyone who wants to understand the subject, including the Harvest of Sorrow, The Great Terror: A Reassessment, and Stalin: Breaker of Nations. Also the works of Richard Pipes are excellent for understanding how Russia collapsed into this mess - Richard Pipes was President Reagan's advisor on Russia.

Exactly. As far as I know, we never engaged Pol Pot's Cambodia in any "cold war." Thus, communism was left to stand or fall on its own merits with no western interference.
Just a sidenote: Remember when Pol Pot died? I strained my ear at every news report hoping to hear the newsreader call him a communist. I heard, oh maybe, 30 news reports concerning his death. In these news reports the word "communist" was used exactly zero times. "Dictator" was used most often. It was never reported that he was a communist or that he was the head of a communist regime. As far as these news readers were concerned, he was just another depostic dictator (probably Right-wing like Pinochet).

Unbelievable.
Does this person know nothing of the Ukraine Famine, or does he have the rank and file talking points that this didn't exist, this was a capitalism invention, or these people destroyed their own food and were fifth columnist German insurrectionists?
