'Leaky Leahy' Suspected in Leaked 9-11 Committee Report
newsmax ^ | 8/28/02 | Limbacher

A day after a draft copy of the Senate Judiciary Committee's report on pre-9-11 intelligence failures was leaked to the New York Times, conservative media leader Rush Limbaugh called for the resignation of committee chairman Sen. Patrick 'Leaky' Leahy, D-Vt., because of his history of leaking classified material to the press.

"There's no way that Patrick Leahy ought to be chairing this committee considering that it receives classified information and oversees the FBI's counterterrorism activities," Limbaugh told his audience near the top of his Wednesday radio broadcast.

"You remember Patrick Leahy," he reminded. "He had to resign from the Senate Intelligence Committee some time ago now for leaking a draft report about the Iran-Contra matter to the media."

The radio host was referring to the worst scandal in the Senate Intelligence Committee's history, where Leahy was compelled to confess that he had allowed an NBC News reporter to review the top secret Iran-Contra document after denying previous reports that he was a chronic leaker. [See: 'Leaky Leahy'].

"I doubt the release of this report was authorized," Limbaugh observed about the latest Leahy connected leak. "Otherwise, why would the people releasing it want their names kept secret?"

In its report on the leaked material the Times noted, "A draft copy of the [9-11] report was provided to the New York Times by Congressional officials on condition that they not be identified."

The document leaked by Leahy's committee concentrated on FBI intelligence lapses during President Bush's first eight months in office.

"I mean, look, if Leahy is not fit to sit on the Intelligence Committee, what business does he have running the Judiciary Committee," the conservative talker maintained. He noted also that Leahy has a long history of opposing the Bush administration for partisan reasons.

The Leahy committee document was leaked to the Times just days after the FBI intensified it's probe into earlier Senate leaks of classified 9-11 material.

After requesting last month that senators involved in the 9-11 probe take lie detector tests, the FBI asked 17 senators to turn over phone and computer records this weekend.

Because none of the senators were identified by name, it's not clear whether Leahy was among those targeted by the request.

If this is the case, than Rumsfeld and Tenet ought to withhold information from Congress in order to protect our national security interests.

I'm not ready to suggest lying, but until the leaks stop, the information SHOULD NOT BE FORTHCOMING.

Leahy is the un-American. He and Jumpin Jeffords are as disgusting as Schumer and Hitlery.

This is scary stuff. I have no problem with democrats being the "loyal oposition". It is what makes this country so great. I do have a problem, and we all have a problem, when politicians put their own interests or the pure political interests of their party above the general good.

Even as screwy as she was, I never heard any evidence that Cynthia McKinney actually leaked any classified information. This puts Leahy a notch below Cynthia and makes him a much more dangerous threat to this country.

The repeated leaks make lying to Congress almost justifiable - at least when national security matters are at stake. Quite frankly, if someone in DOD or CIA lied to Leahy, Torricelli, or someone like them, I'd have no problem with them doing so.

Listening to "The Great One" Mark Levin's show this past sunday, he said a couple of times that the FBI is getting close! to the leaker.

The problem with getting this info, is that the President with his 'new tone' as shown yesterday with the Clinton pardons, will not punish these wrong doers. He would rather not rock the boat. That is a shame since the public still cannot see how guys like Leahy, Jeffords, Biden, Durbin and others ;especially Dash and Geppie, can lie without punishment. They get away with lots and the media protects them. IT is up to conservatives, GOPERS, and friendly media to pursue these charges since the President will not!

I might have agreed with this until about 1917 when the modern forces of evil crystallized in the creation of the Soviet Union. I have to confess that I truly believe that many on the Democratic side of the aisle are far more sinister than just members of the "loyal opposition". They are convinced - either consciously or unconsciously - that a socialist worldview/apparatus (and all that that entails) is the way of the future, and their cause does not allow them to follow the rules of the game as they have been set up.

I hold Jumpin Jeffords on a slightly weaker level of contempt. He was just a whore interested in doing his business and picking up the money from the nightstand. The other three are enemies of the country.

My apologies to any of the fine ladies of the sexual entertainment business for my comparisions of Jeffords to them. :-)

I do have a problem, and we all have a problem, when politicians put their own interests or the pure political interests of their party above the general good.

America spreads freedom and democracy to the remainder of the world and the Leftists criticize us for forcing our way of life on them. At the same time the Leahys of our country leak secret information to force their desires and bury themselves in the ground to avoid the negative exposure. Their interests are the only interests which are meaningful and they are not concerned through what means they achieve them, including America's security.

Neither would I. In fact, I think it would be a DUTY to do so.
