It doesn't matter. You jail them for what they DO, period. If you applaud this sort of behavior by cops and prosecutors, you deserve the same treatment. It doesn't MATTER what else they did, if they are not guilty of the crime they're jailed for, then the cops who put them there should be compelled to take their place and become Bubba's wife while the non-guilty gets some serious compensation.

OTOH if they have done something else for which they got a wrist slap, b!tch at the system they may have taken advantage of...

Nothing is so appalling to me as the abandonment by conservatives of the founding principles of the United States with respect to criminal justice. The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and thier supporting documents (the Federalist Papers) are rife with warnings about the danger of the prosecutorial power of the state, the capriousness of judicial systems that lack controls and the undeniable importance of due process, the presumption of innocence and the state's burden of proof regarding the accused.

To read casual dismissal of this MOST FUNDAMENTAL freedom from persecution by state powers--comments like "well he might have been innocent of that crime but he was probably a scumbag anyawy"--turn my stomach. THERE but for the GRACE of GOD goes you buckoo!

Some how, conservatives need to find a balance between a rightminded and justifiable interest in Law and Order and a health respect for the rights of the accused. Right now American conservatism is too strongly skewed to the former (with the exception perhaps of the libertarian strands).

Except for the Bubba's wife part (rape is never an acceptable punishment), I agree.

I only wish to point out that such behavior may be inspired by a justice system that has not been dispensing justice.

Lincoln said that nothing is settled until it is justly settled, and when the legal system paroles the most brutal murderers after a few years or fails to convict them in the first place, then one might expect people like cops who have been pushed too far by seeing things that jurors and judges and the public do not see, to get certain slime bags off the streets before they strike again.

So I ask, how much of an angel was this guy before he was sent to jail for the one brutal crime that he apparently didn't do?

I'd like to know if he had raped some kid and then cut off her arms and then was paroled after ten years for good behavior before he was locked up for something he didn't do.
