WASHINGTON - Three years ago, Texas investment mogul R. Allen Stanford became embroiled in a bitter dispute with U.S. authorities who said he was using his financial and political clout to subvert banking laws in Antigua, threatening to make that impoverished island nation a haven for money launderers.
When Antiguan officials promised to clean up their laws, and Stanford stepped down from an agency that regulated his own offshore bank, U.S. officials backed off and the conflict died down.
"Four Stanford employees listed as contributors in Torricelli's report to the secretary of the Senate said they could not recall giving money.
"I don't remember making a contribution... . Who was this again?" said Stanford employee Patricia Herr, who was listed in the report as having given $200."
The article tries to help exonerate Torch:
"There is no evidence that Torricelli has assisted Stanford."
Until you remember Clinton appointee US Attorney White:
"The U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan shut down its investigation [of Torch's relationship w/ Chang] in January without charging Torricelli."
Maybe if someone seriously investigated Torch like the criminal he is there would be some evidence. I doubt he is simply going to admit his crimes.
