That's my girl!
Her birthday is on 9/11.
She spent most of the day reading The Life of Patrick Henry and doing the detail drawings and making up a cut list for a barn owl nesting box.
Her little sister focused on her vocabulary and her algebra.

She'll be ten.
I don't know if you got the point: NattieShea will be celebrating her birthday on the same day as the first anniversary of the Twin Towers disaster. All year long, every time someone mentioned 911, it tweaked her head because it's her birthday. It's not traumatic or anything, just a constant annoyance.
A cut list is the plan for how one uses lumber efficiently to make the parts for a nesting box for barn owls. Her assignment was to do the research, design the box, prepare the detail drawings of each piece, set up the cut list and a bill of materials, buy the hardware, and build the box.
Along the way she will learn basic woodworking skills, a little bit about design and drafting, a lot about barn owls, and she will then write up the results of her experiments and observations.
