http://www.rainbowpush.org/support/donate.htm

The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition is a not-for-profit organization, but donations are not deductible for income tax purposes. Should you wish to make tax deductible donations, please visit our affiliate organization, Citizenship Education Fund (CEF).

Nowhere on CEF's site is there any specific statement about it being a 501(c) non-profit.

At the top of this CEF-site link, though, is this statement:

If you would like additional information not found on our website, contact us: info@rainbowpush.org

Give org does a guideline thing explaining their recommendations as to what to look for in a Non-Profit or charity.... example below...

B4. Total fund raising and administrative costs shall be reasonable.

Reasonable use of funds requires that a) at least 50% of total income from all sources be spent on programs and activities directly related to the organization's purposes; b) at least 50% of public contributions be spent on the programs and activities described in solicitations, in accordance with donor expectations; c) fund raising costs not exceed 35% of related contributions; and d) total fund raising and administrative costs not exceed 50% of total income.

An organization which does not meet one or more of these percentages limitations may provide evidence to demonstrate that its use of funds is reasonable. The higher fund raising and administrative costs of a newly created organization, donor restrictions on the use of funds, exceptional bequests, a stigma associated with a cause, and environment or political events beyond an organization's control are among the factors which may result in costs that are reasonable although they do not meet these percentage limitations.

Right at the top of that form is the information that this is being filed as a 501(c). But why doesn't their website come out with that upfront? You would think a non-profit would want to trumpet that information somewhere in their "about" section, wouldn't you think? Contributions to 501(c)s are considered "charitable contributions" and worthy of being investigated by the BBB.

DONE! With comments below.

Information About Charity:
Rainbow Push Coalition
930 East 50th Street
Chicago, IL 60615
Phone: 733-373-3366

Your Comment About This Charity:
I would be interested in see an official accounting of how much money this charity received - the sources - and how it is spent.

It's amazing, that such a large and publicly mentioned charity is NOT on your list...

Why is that?

Why should anyone be upset or surprised? The name is Jesse Jackson Charities and that is where the money goe's. To His favorite charity, namely himself. The sad part is that anyone with an IQ over fifty would send this leech anything.
