Hate American Style

August 30, 2002 Hate, American Style By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF

AST PEORIA, Ill. — My interview with the Rev. Matt Hale, America's scariest hatemonger, got off to a rocky start.

As he picked at a fruit salad in a restaurant here in East Peoria, his headquarters, he recalled an incident in childhood that first led him to regard nonwhites as vermin: At a dance, he saw white girls "betraying their race" by kissing black boys.

"I felt nauseous," he said solemnly. "Interracial marriage is against nature. It's a form of bestiality."

A moment later, I disclosed that I had betrayed the white race and married a Chinese-American. It was, I felt, an awkward moment.

But Mr. Hale, as charming and charismatic as he is hateful, was unfazed. He beamed, and for a moment I thought he was going to ask to see photos of my kids.

I came to East Peoria to meet Mr. Hale because he has become the key figure in America's hate community, revitalizing racism by recruiting women, children and convicts into a high-tech, energetic organization whose followers show a pattern of random brutality toward blacks and other "enemies." It would be flattering Mr. Hale too much to call his group America's Al Qaeda, but the scary thing is that I think the comparison would leave him feeling flattered.

After 9/11 I interviewed Muslim hatemongers abroad, and I wanted to confront our own religious extremists. They are not a threat to national stability, the way they are in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia, but they are every bit as loony as Al Qaeda and they have been enmeshed in violence. That's particularly true of Mr. Hale's group, the World Church of the Creator, whose followers have shot, knifed or beaten blacks, Jews and Asian-Americans in several states.

Mr. Hale dismisses the attacks as understandable but anomalous. He says that while killing enemies (presumably including race-betrayers like me) is morally justifiable, for now it is tactically inappropriate and doesn't accomplish much, anyway.

"Suppose someone goes out and kills 10 blacks tonight," he shrugs impatiently. "Well, there are millions more."

A law school graduate, Mr. Hale, 31, has built the World Church of the Creator into an international organization with members in 49 states and 28 countries. It claims 70,000 to 80,000 adherents and boasts in press releases that it is "the fastest-growing white racist and anti-Semitic church in America."

Yet it is not a religion in any traditional sense, and its sole theology is "RaHoWa" — racial holy war on behalf of whites. It recruits very energetically, distributing 80,000 leaflets just this spring, and runs a sophisticated Web site with information on, for example, how to make your own plastic explosives. The church even has a Web page for kids.

There are plenty of other domestic counterparts to Islam's manic mullahs. Think of Christian Reconstructionists, who want to re-establish Old Testament laws, even stoning to death adulterers and heretics. (We tend to forget that stoning to death is never mentioned in the Koran but is frequently prescribed in the Bible; a rigid interpretation of Deuteronomy would lead to the execution of most Americans.)

Mr. Hale's World Church is scariest of all, though, because of its vigor and highbrow racism. One of the church's slogans, an ungrammatical twist on Cato the Elder's famous line about Carthage, is even in Latin: "Delenda est Judaica," which could be translated as "Judaism must be destroyed."

The son of a policeman, Mr. Hale had his awakening when he was 12 years old and read both "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" and "Mein Kampf." ( So much for the benefits of early reading programs.) He marries his intelligence with attitudes that make your skin crawl.

After the reporter Daniel Pearl was murdered, Mr. Hale wrote: "We couldn't care less about the death of this Jew who along with the rest of his parasitic race are clearly a form of vermin far more dangerous in fact than the kind that run on four legs."

Mr. Hale also boasted to me: "We have really revolutionized the whole racial community. People used to think of a guy with a beer belly, spitting out tobacco and missing a few teeth. Now they think of people who are determined, energetic leaders, educated and idealistic. We're the best."

As Al Qaeda has shown us, the only people more dangerous than dumb bigots are smart, educated ones.

Do you think the Left needs to re-establish the paranoia that the religious people in America are nuts?

The left itself runs on hatred of others and fears that they'll get you if your party doesn't get them first.

Why would the NY Times send a reporter out to interview a kook in Peoria? In a nation of hundreds of millions of people, there are bound to be a few odd ducks if you look far enough. For that matter, is this guy much worse than Al Sharpton, other than being on the wrong side of the political fence?

So, I suppose this guy's next article in the series will be about hatemongers, Calypso Louie Farrakhan and Al ("Great Hair, Al") Sharpton.

The difference is, to conservatives, this World Church is an outcast, not part of our movement. To liberals, Calypso Louie and Al are a little to the left, but nevertheless an important part of their coalition. We reject hatemongers. The left embraces them.

Where's your BARF alert?

I challenge Mr. Kristof to name two adulterers stoned to death by Christians in the previous millennium. However we know that in Nigeria three people were sentenced to this death penalty in the last WEEK alone.

There is more hatred in the NYT editorial office than in all the white supremist groups in the US combined.

In her book "Slander", Ann Colter said that without the NYT Editorial Staff her book would not be possible.

The more I learn of liberals, the more I recognize a tremendous undercurrent of hatred and conceit. The criticize others as their lessers and allow their leaders to escape punishment for wrongdoing. All this while on a path toward Socialism. That's the stuff that kept Hitler in power.

I went to this "church's" web site. You'll be interested to know that they reject Christ, the afterlife, The Ten Commandments, etc. They believe only in science and white supremacy.

"Think of Christian Reconstructionists, who want to re-establish Old Testament laws"

People refuse to understand: Christ did away with the Old Law. Christians cannot reconstruct the Old Law.

In Acts 15, this was the very topic under discussion. Judaizing Christians wanted to bind the Old Law upon New Testament Christians.

Peter said, "Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?" (Acts 15:10)

Ditto for Galatians. Here, the item under consideration was circumcision. Paul said, 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
(Gal 5:2-4)

Again, in Colossians. Col 2:14: Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

The law of Moses served a temporary function: to bring us into the law of Christ. Once the law of Christ was established, the law of Moses was gone forever.

I thought 'Hate, American Style' was when a New York Times reporter makes up things, like a person failing three polygraph examinations in a multiple murder investigation, and smears this person in the pages of the Times. At the same time, this reporter does NOT call up the smearee and give him the opportunity to tell his side of the story.

Of course, this 'Hate, American Style' refers to Nicholas Kristoff, the author of this piece. Kristoff is obviously polishing his liberal credentials for the coming lawsuit, where Kristoff will get his butt handed to him. Next story from Kristoff, I predict, will be either about abortion or homosexuality. Kristoff isn't a columnist anymore, he's a politician.

The New York Times had to go a long way and look far and wide to interview one of the cast of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and then write about them. Both the writer, his employer, and the nut being interviewed are all crazy if you ask me.

Considering the current state of affairs with the major media and their associated entertainment outlets I expect to see this Hale idiot get his own reality show. But that would not last long because I expect they would follow this bozo around for a few hours and see he is all talk.

My point here is not that this man is, or is not a Christian; it's how he's being portrayed.

Any religious nut is on the "Right."

Look for more of this as elections approach. They have to create an image for their followers and the ignorant. Aren't those two the same?

Nick -- Although it is always tempting for a racebaiter such as yourself to throw your family into the pyre, I'm sorry to inform you that your Chinese-American wife is white.

"Chinese" is a nationality, not a color.

Why would the NY Times send a reporter out to interview a kook in Peoria?

You're right about the 'kook' part. Why does the NYT do it?

Why is there an original movie about RFK on cable just before an important election? Why will there be an unbridled torrent of media-generated (and gratuitous) propaganda making anyone to the right of Bill Clinton appear to be a hatemonger? Because the Demoncrats need to arouse their base to keep the Senate and maybe take the House, that's why. Don't be surprised if some 'new' Nixon tapes just happen to be released in the next few weeks, along with whatever else the Rats can dig up to reawaken the Spirit of the Sixties.

"It would be flattering Mr. Hale too much to call his group America's Al Qaeda"

Obviously this is the highest form of praise in the NYT.

This newspaper is truly an American tragedy....it makes my college paper look conservative.

Why would the NY Times send a reporter out to interview a kook in Peoria? In a nation of hundreds of millions of people,

For 60 years, the standard tactic of the sophists on the Left has been to intimidate those who would challenge their underlying assumptions, by creating ridiculous caricatures of those who disagree with those assumptions. Thus the Times will interview Rev. Hale rather than a serious Conservative Anthropologist on the subject of racial differences. They need to clothe the debate in the rhetoric of hate, so that decent people will be afraid to ever question the idea of the interchangeability of the types of man. This is all part of the campaign for an undifferentiated humanity, which the Fabian Left sees as the way to a new world order, and peace, etc..

Those who provide the rationale for this sort of tortured journalism have created a whole bogus intellectual justification, for the idea that the end justifies the means, if the purpose is to convince us that we are all the same, and that the apparent differences between people are all illusory. (See Myths & Myth Makers In American "Higher" Education.)

Of course, the most dangerous hatemongers are not the Rev. Hales. They are those who would damn the successful people of the earth, with the Lies of Socialism. It is these latter, whom you will never see exposed in a Fabian Socialist rag, like The New York Times, who have stirred up all of the despicable mass slaughters since the French Revolution.

The Times will never admit to this. But in this tactic of seizing upon a caricature for an adversary, they are aping the tactics of the Communists and Nazis. They have the same lack of real intellectual integrity. And if they are allowed to keep doing this sort of thing, while Conservatives remain silent--lest they be called bad names--they will eventually bring results to America not unlike those which Hitler & Goebbels brought to Germany.

Rev. Hale is no more an accurate representation of White Americans proud of their heritage than were Hitler's distorted representations of German Jews, an accurate representation of the latter. But if the spin masters of the Left have their way, we may soon see demands for the similar treatment of American Conservatives.

The pity is that most Conservatives are either unaware of how the game is being played, or already intimidated; that those Liberals who really want a tolerant Society are hopelessly misled; that the most tolerant land in human history is being turned into something out of a surrealist nightmare, where neurosis reigns supreme on a mass scale.

"I came to East Peoria to meet Mr. Hale because he has become the key figure in America's hate community,"

Odd. Never heard of him.

"After 9/11 I interviewed Muslim hatemongers abroad, and I wanted to confront our own religious extremists."

Of course. Must have "balance", after all. One cannot say an unkind word about organizations of foreign madmen intent on (and successful at) killing us without also seeking out some obscure American loser to show that We've Got People Just As Bad. This is just Journalism 101, folks.

Do you think the Left needs to re-establish the paranoia that the religious people in America are nuts?

That would seem to be the purpose of this article, yes.

Mr. Kristoff.

How can you criticize and profile this man. We must understand his reasons for thinking the way he does. Maybe it's our fault that he is as he is. If we give them money and jobs maybe they will not be as they are.

Anyway, surly this man is twisting the beliefs he purports to hold into something evil. Most people who hold racist ideas are really good people and live among us as good Americans.
