What Bad Thing Has Saddam Done Lately?
Various ^ | 4 September 2002 | Self

I'll make this short and sweet. I have not seen evidence for a reason to invade Iraq or demand a regime change there.

Okay, Saddam gassed his own people twelve years ago or so. There have been multiple accusations of his development of weapons of mass destruction, including biological and chemical weapons development.

All the TV footage I see of Saddam Hussein is about 10 years old. Show me the evidence.

While I agree that the language is vague I think the subtext is significant. Iran has better terrain for concealment from our flyovers but we seek to engage Iraq.

Which begs the question: If we are to present a war based on state-sponsored terror Iran would fit the bill.

And yet the war drums are facing Iraq. It seems that we are witnessing a shell game.

Do you think that the sweet crude from Iraq isn't important? I don't.

And I suspect that Putin has used his time at the ranch for effect.

Would you be suprised if Bush came out and said that weapons inspections would commense prior to deployment? I wouldn't.

I hear what you're saying about Iran but louder saber rattling or out and out military attack against them right now would be a bad decision...IMHO

If we goose Iraq...the impotus is there in Iran for change. That Government is already teetering...any threat from us would only help stir up nationalism and possible strengthen the mullahs.

If we stand off and do little quiet SPECFOR things here and there...Tehran will clean its own closet.

The present regieme in Iran is on it's last legs. The populationm of Iran is very pro-west if not American.

No I believe he will demand that inspections be resumed and that Iraq will refuse. Why, because they are actually in possession of what we have said they have. This is not about oil NB. I don't believe that for a second. This is about the war on terroism.

Now keep in mind that the condition of the end of the war in gulf was that Saddam let inspectors in. He kicked them out repeatedly.

You're right we have the right to go in based on this fact alone. Should we?

Do the American people and the pols have the stomach for an attack based on this alone? If not, don't send our guys in.

What makes you think we aren't now? Iran and Saudi are on the verge of collapse. The only thing keeping them afloat is us.

Remember we created Saddam. We created the Shah. And we created SA.

Simply put we have to look at this as a colonial burp rather than a cause. To commit to the levels we had in the 90's is not cost effective.

We're stretched thin.

Iran's is the last Government we are keeping afloat...

And [if] we [created] Saddam, then it is our responsibility to dispatch him.

I will respectfully disagree. All human conflict is based on limited resources.

All human conflict is based on limited resources.

NB I can list many conflicts that dispute that. Was 911 because of limited resources?

In the short term I suspect you could make your point but overall I think that my suspician would prove out.

I submit that 9-11 was over limited resources. The Saudi connection is just sitting there while we are being led to other countries.

UBL and Saddam are bit players while we draw the wells dry. It's not personal, it's just business.

And I don't have a problem with it.
