Johannesburg (CNSNews.com) - A U.S. environmentalist said he gladly led the boos against Colin Powell during Powell's address to the Earth summit on Wednesday. "I was ashamed for my country because the people representing us were acting like selfish children," Michael Green said.
Green, the executive director of the Center for Environmental Health, was forcibly removed from the U.N. plenary room after booing and chanting, "Shame on Bush" during Powell's address.
"As an American, I was so embarrassed...that the U.S. delegation is obstructing very important environmental issues like global warming and the WTO (World Trade Organization)," Green told CNSNews.com.
At least five American environmental and anti-corporate protesters were forced out after chanting and unfurling a banner that read, "Bush: People and Planet, not Big Business."
"Every delegation feels like the U.S. has blocked important environmental policies that would have helped the earth and helped poor people," he added.
Green boasted that having U.S. environmentalists lead the jeers allowed delegates from other nations to feel more comfortable joining the verbal chastising of Powell.
"The place went crazy. Our chanting of "Shame on Bush" created openings for the other delegates to share their feeling in a way they wouldn't have otherwise," Green said.
"This is the U.N. People don't normally boo a Secretary of State; they don't jeer each other," he explained.
Powell's speech was drowned out several times. He told the protesters, "I have heard you, now will you hear me?" But the protesters would hear none of it, as many were either forced out or walked out in disgust.
Green believes that because the U.S. is "the richest country in the world, we have a responsibility to do the right thing and to help others."
"I am embarrassed by the government that is currently representing me," he added.
Tom Kilgannon, executive director of the Freedom Alliance, said the protestors can't be satisfied.
"The U.S. has come under a lot of criticism at this conference, and we put forward hundreds of millions of dollars to help the poor around the world, especially in Africa, and these people just aren't satisfied. There is no end to their bitterness," Kilgannon said.

Well, I am ashamed that Mr. Green acted like a complete moron.

Get used to it Michael GREEN. The citizenry is getting wise to you and your communist front organizations. The backlash will squash your agenda like an SUV running down a possum.

The Center for Environmental Health is a California non-profit organization, so the American taxpayer
paid for their trip to South Africa to disrupt Colin Powells speech. Whatta country ...

""I am embarrassed by the government that is currently representing me," he added." EMIGRATE, ingrate! I'm sure you would be MUCH happier in some country like Germany with a substantial "Green" political presence.

"I was ashamed for my country because the people representing us were acting like selfish children," Michael Green said. I must agree, Mr. Green's behavior was shameful.

Perhaps the young fella should stay in Africa and offer his services as a consultant to help these countries remain in the planet's good graces. Perhaps he could convince them that they don't want any of our nasty American money or aid- that'll show us!

Oh, I am sure Mr Green was ashamed also of the 200lbs of Jet fuel that he burned to transport his rearend all the way around the world so he could do something so unselfish and non-childish like booing speakers down at a multi-million dollar conference. Mr Green I am sure will do something positive and constructive for the planet on his week long vacation that will justify burning another 200lbs of fuel to ship his stupid ass back home.
These watermellons are about the most childish and selfish people on the planet. Just what do they produce besides problems for the people who actualy work for a living?

"Every delegation feels like the U.S. has blocked important environmental policies that would have helped the earth and helped poor people," he added. There were some awesome suggestions by the Greens, such as not allowing electricity and toilets in to destroy the third world. With help like that....

If that Green freak is ashamed of this country, he can move elsewhere. Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, or the PRC are options (I wouldn't inflict him on any country not on my [bleep] list).

'I'm Ashamed For My Country' No, he is one of those self hating Americans that is ashamed OF his country.

"I was ashamed for my country because the people representing us were acting like selfish children," Michael Green said. We're a grown-up democracy. We can decide for ourselves as Americans what the proper tradeoff is between growth and environmentalism. We really don't need a bunch of rabid fanatical types in Johannesburg to tell us what to do. And rude ones to boot...

After reading the first 15 posts, it appears that Mr. Green's countrymen are ashamed of him also.
World-class fool!

Greens are never firm enough in their convictions to go THAT far. They still want to enjoy the good life while trying to make everyone else feel guilty for enjoying theirs. They'll happily ruin another person's life or carreer, and happily engage in extorting hard working people to forward their selfish and totalitarian green agenda, but don't expect them to give up the comforts of a free society to show the third-worlders how to be kind to the earth.

"The U.S. has come under a lot of criticism at this conference, and we put forward hundreds of millions of dollars to help the poor around the world, especially in Africa, and these people just aren't satisfied. There is no end to their bitterness," Kilgannon said. And, Kilgannon and his ilk will do all they can to keep that bitterness alive. Without the bitterness, people like Kilgannon, the other freako commies, and the Poverty Pimps and hate mongers have no audience...
