Sens. Bill Nelson and Bob Graham, both Democrats, were amenable to naming the building for Smathers, but said support from the entire state delegation -- especially Meek -- was essential, said spokesmen for both senators.

The two senators have ties to the Smathers family. The Graham and Smathers families have played prominent roles in Miami-Dade business and politics since the 1920s. Smathers was a close friend of Graham's half-brother Phil, who became president of The Washington Post in 1959.

BTTT. What bugs you the most about McBride, Florida freepers? Does it bother you that the money man for his campaign is Terry MacAuliffe's father-in-law? Taxation without representation?

I'm wondering if Cuomo was told to drop out of the NYC Governor's race so that HRC and Bubba could focus on helping McBride down here in Florida. It's an obsession with those Arkansas folk.

I have one question that I'd like a moderator to ask candidate McBride in a hypothetical debate: What was your opinion of the Elian Gonzalez matter handled by the Clinton Administration and Janet Reno?

He has Al Cardenas in Miami supporting him instead of Janet because of Elian.

Is McBride silent on this issue because nobody will ask him? It's pretty important to Floridians who are undecided IMO. The boy is in Cuba. How does he feel about that?
