Zimbabwe drops objections to GM crops: WFP
Reuters via SABC News (SA) ^ | September 5, 2002

Posted on 09/06/2002 4:02:44 AM PDT by Clive

Zimbabwe has dropped its objections to genetically modified (GM) crops in a step which should encourage other countries in the region to accept badly needed food aid, the World Food Programme (WFP) said today.

"We made great progress today on the GMO issue," said James Morris, the WFP Executive Director, after a meeting with Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.

"What he (Mugabe) did today will be a very important signal in the region. The fact that they have now concluded that they are comfortable in accepting GMO crops or commodities will be an important signal to other countries in the region."

"It will enable us to do our job," he said. Morris is also Kofi Annan, the UN secretary- general's, special envoy for the humanitarian crisis in Southern Africa, where aid workers say up to 13 million people face famine.

Like several other countries in the region, Zimbabwe has expressed opposition to feeding its people with maize from the United States, which cannot certify its food donations as GM-free.

Until now, the government has only said it may allow aid workers to distribute ground maize, which allays fears that GM grain may be planted locally. However, Zimbabwe government officials were not immediately available for comment. - Reuters

So now Mugabe will allow us to feed some of the opposition, so he is not pushed out of power by "evil foreigners." How considerate of him.

Opposition? Oh no, that's not how it works. Members of the opposition aren't allowed anywhere near aid workers. Generally aid is just handed over to the government for redistribution, but when it's not, the soldiers "maintaining order" see to it that only the right people reach the head of the line. That's the whole point of Mugabe's plan to eliminate agriculture: If you want to eat in Zimbabwe, you have to vote for Mugabe. It's the exact same political strategy the Democrats use, just taken to its logical conclusion.

There's little chance that anyone will take this advice, but still...

Don't send Zimbabwe one damned grain of anything!

If we don't allow at least one of these horrible African Marxist dictatorships to suffer the consequences of its depravities, there will be little incentive for any of the others to straighten out. To bail them out of their self-inflicted miseries is to guarantee even more misery, oppression, and squalor in the foreseeable future. Sad as it might be for Mugabe's opponents, if they're sensible enough to oppose him, they're sensible enough to vote with their feet, or take other measures for their survival.

We have to stop being the enablers to the world's monsters. They've killed and despoiled enough for one century.

Or, support action to "eliminate" Mugabe, all options open. Mugabe and his confidants haven't felt enough heat yet. Surely this bunch of thugs have enough monry stashed away to go into exile (somewhere.)

Forward it (with the headers intact) to uce@ftc.gov

They keep a database on these scams, although how successful they are at catching or prosecuting the perps is unknown.
