This will be my second posting "Adventure"
I think I found what I can do for peoplke here. That is to write.
We all, indeed, are New Yorkers. Thanks for a beautiful essay!
Just this evening I was at my sister's and we were talking about where we were when we heard the news. I was in Singapore so for me it happened during "prime time," sometime between 8 and 9 pm. The day before someone had given us their old TV so we were able to watch it all unfold, but I first got word via ATRW that day.
I just told my sister that I remember feeling very detached from it all. While my wife and some other friends who came over were glued to the TV, I couldn't stay focused on it and I was writing e-mails, trying, I guess, to make it go away.
I clicked on your profile and found out you were Singapore Yank!! I am glad to know you are still around because the World Series is coming up again. :)
Seriously, I don't know how I would have coped if I were out of the country on 9-11. God bless.
God bless!
And GOOD MORNING!
=^)
Here's another bump!
And thank you for the heads up, JohnHuang2!
After alerting an associate we both ran into the one conference room in our office and turned on the TV. John grew up in NYC and I figured he would be the most interested. In a matter of seconds, we saw the fireball from the second plane hitting the south tower. Our initial thought was that they were showing footage of the first crash, but it became quite clear, all too fast, that was not the case.
Within minutes, the conference room was filled with fellow employees all watching in a reverent silence, broken by intermittant gasps. A manager walked in the conference room and told everyone they needed to leave and that he had a conference call scheduled for 11:00am. He had heard that there was a plane crash in New York City but was unaware of the magnitude of the event. In retrospect, the only enlightening moment of the day was when my associate from NYC, John, lit into the manager, "WHAT THE @&$# IS WRONG WITH YOU?! THE WHOLE &*$#ING COUNTRY IS UNDER ATTACK, MY @%*%ING HOMETOWN IS IN RUINS AND ALL YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT IS A GODFORSAKEN CONFERENCE CALL?!"
The poor bossman was shaken by the verbal assault but he calmly stated that he could probably hold the conference call from his office and walked away. My thought: Dang, them New Yorkers sure do have a way with words...
Soon after, everyone started heading home. I never sensed any immediate personal danger or danger to my family, it was just that I couldn't see going back to work. How could anyone work after witnessing what we just saw on live television? And to think of the people that actually went back to their offices in the south tower when they were told over the P.A. that the building was safe! Safe or not, it wouldn't have mattered. How could you look out the window at a mirror image of your office and watch the terror in people's faces as they leapt to their deaths from their own office windows? These images I had racing through my mind had to be sorted out and it wasn't going to happen sitting in a 8 foot square cube.
As I walked out the door, I was immediately struck by how beautiful a day it was in North Carolina. I stood out in the parking lot with a couple of colleagues and as our office is located under the approach to RDU we noticed the planes landing, not every few minutes like we were used to seeing and hearing, but one right after the other, plane after plane. In a relatively minor way, the effects of the tragedy we had just witnessed on TV hundreds of miles away had already reached Raleigh.
I took the long way home that day, the kids weren't due home from school for a couple of hours so I stopped in at a few places along the way to "take in" the reactions and opinions of others. When I got home, I took the dogs out for a walk through the woods and fields behind my house. Man, what a pretty day...
A year later, I still haven't sorted all these images out but there is one thought I am certain of; I know those bastards are burning in eternal hell.
Those of us with any common sense know that innocent fellow Americans were mass murdered by the Islamakazis from the result of a secret plan. A plan so secret that some of the Islamakazis on those 4 planes may have never knows what they were doing.
Last night, Long Cut, one of our Freepers on Active Duty, in our Flying Navy, posted these pictures in a Thread where as usual the hate President Bush crowd are rallying around the absurd. Thank you Long Cut and the hundreds of thousands of our brave men and women who are putting your lives on the line to prevent future 9/11's!
Here is the reality of what happened a year ago, and we as sane Americans must never forget it:
