KELOWNA, B.C. - A house cat in the Okanagan has beaten the odds and survived an attack by a coyote.
While Gizmo was sitting in his owner's front yard early Tuesday morning, he was pounced upon by a coyote.
He may look the part of a fluffy house pet, but Gizmo put up a surprisingly big fight.
"We were quite upset because there was a lot of blood all over Giz and we thought he was really hurt," says owner Colleen Pitt.
The cat was rushed to a local veterinary hospital for treatment. But when he was examined, it was discovered that all the blood on the housepet was from the coyote.
"Gizmo's a tough little guy, he was able to take this coyote on and come out on top," says veterinarian Dr. Grant Nixon.
What makes the cat's survival even more remarkable is that he is actually an indoor cat.
His owners say they are going to do a better job in future of keeping Gizmo inside. (Do we hear a sigh of relief from neighbourhood coyotes?)

I figured that with all the serious stuff going on around here lately--9/11 anniversary, the clouds of war gathering, internal disputes--we needed something a little lighthearted.
Besides, the picture alone makes this all worthwhile...

I can't *wait* to see what y'all come up with for a caption... :)

I don't think this is that lighthearted....but ....if that's the cat...I wouldn't want to mess with him either. He looks permanently pi$$ed.

Well, maybe the story isn't that lighthearted. (I haven't had my first Diet Coke yet, I am NOT awake.) But, c'mon, you have to admit, that picture has endless captioning possibilities. :)

I used to have a Persian named Gizmo...they make pretty
good fighters because like boxers their noses are all smashed in...nothing for a coyote to grab onto.

A medium-sized spaniel once made the mistake of cornering our Siamese cat where she could not escape. The dog did not survive to avoid repeating its error. I gained a new respect for the cat, who lived to the ripe age of 18.

I saw a dachsund that coyotes decided to try and make a meal out of it, I had pity upon the coyotes. The dachsund had lots of grey hair between the teeth.
