The elves of ELF speak "In pursuance of justice, freedom, and equal consideration for all innocent life across the board, segments of this global revolutionary movement are no longer limiting their revolutionary potential by adhering to a flawed, inconsistent, non-violent ideology," the group said last week in an e-mail from its Portland, Ore.-based press office.

"While innocent life will never be harmed in any action we undertake, where it is necessary, we will no longer hesitate to pick up the gun to implement justice, and provide the needed protection for our planet that decades of legal battles, pleading protest, and economic sabotage have failed so drastically to achieve," and the feds respond with this implacable rebuff "What I didn't like about it at all is the reference to using guns," Mr. Wasley said.

Now Freepers what response do you think would have been mounted if an extremist group calling itself the Second Amendment Defenders (SAD) burned down a couple of buildings containing BATF offices and then announced that in view of Waco they would not hesitate "to use guns to defend the Constitutional rights of Americans from bureaucratic usurpation"? The federal police response to 9-11 would seem tepid compared to what would happen. This would be replete with podium pounding televised remarks by the ATG, apocalyptic commentary from various tv blow dried talking heads and Ted Kennedy demanding complete civilian disarmament as "an emergency measure." Doe there appear to be a double standard for domestic terrorist actions? Hmmmm

ELF membership figures are unknown because the group operates in "cells" that may consist of one or many individuals. Since 1997, according to its Web site, ELF has carried out dozens of actions, causing more than $30 million in damage.

These Ba$tard$ need food , shelter, clothing, etc. like the rest of us. They either need jobs or funds from supporters for travel and the acqusition of bomb and torch materials. The police should look real close at those environmental organizations that claim no violance. Some of those ELF ba$tard$ are sleeping in these organizations.

It's the same crap as with Muslim terrorists. The Saudis are funding the terrorists all the while decrying their actions.

The info out on ELF is really sketchy, but, as I understand it, they are assumed to be at least financially upper middle class and very mobile and well equiped. The Vail job was done on skis. They skied in, torched the place and skied out. The FBI is having a hard time finding them. At least the last time I saw a report on ELF. That ELF would destroy 70 years worth of work is typical of the jobs they do.

George Bush said the United States would hunt down and severely punish all those who represent a terrorist threat to our country. I hope that includes the ELF because these sickos certainly fall into that category.

Absolutely correct. Talk about a group that's completely silent, though... Financially, it is also assumed they support themselves. It's just sick.

The FBI doesn't help itself with this group, by announcing they're trying to infiltrate it, though.

Oh man! Would I love nothing more than to run into an ELF goon with an attitude and a gun. Talk about opportunity knocking.

Put a $1000.00 bounty on the nasty little ELF critters and watch them disappear.

2 ELF ear = $1000

Rep. George P. Radanovich, California Republican said "This group of extremists has forever damned their cause and should be treated by law enforcement as a threat to our national security. ELF is as cowardly as al Qaeda and as dangerous as the Taliban. It is critical for us to track them down and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law."

He called that right.

I think one would have to bring in the whole hide, as the ears could belong to anyone.

If the hide is all smelly, gray and pastey (like nearly all vegens) it's a pretty good bet it's an enviro-creep. Dreadlocks are a dead givaway.

If these people cared about the environment, they would recognize that advancing technology benefits the environment. The only reason that hunter-gatherers had less environmental impact than people today is that there were far fewer of them.

Of course, ELF et al. would probably be delighted to reduce mankind's impact on the environment by getting rid of half the population (themselves excluded, of course) but otherwise they refuse to acknowledge that technology is what makes environmental conservation practical.

Of course there is.

I am finally back online after a system crash ( "recallibration error!" ) and partial recovery from bare metal... I'll be around, but am still trying to get back to where I was at noon yesterday- it's going to take a while.

It is the only way, and the sooner the better, but I think the last sentence in reply #1 just may apply.
