The Republican Party of Texas Platform has been MUCH in the news of late because it is a CONSERVATIVE document and, as such, VERY controversial. I thought it would be an instructive exercise, for those of us who wish to do so here, to go through it plank by plank and see where we stand on these issues. Pursuant to that, I will post ONE plank of the Platform, every few days and anyone who wishes to can state their views as to that particular part of the platform.
Today, under the sub-heading Preserving American Freedom we find the following plank:
Elimination of Executive Orders - The Party demands the elimination of presidential authority to issue executive orders, presidential decision directives, and other administrative mandates that do not have congressional approval. Further, we demand a repeal of all previous executive orders and administrative mandates.

0 points! While we have seen some presidents abuse this greatly I do not think that is sufficient reason to attempt to curtail the chief executive of our land from doing his job! Executive orders, presidential decision directives, and other administrative mandates should however have force ONLY within the executive branch of the government. The problem the writers are trying to address here is one of a weak, compliant, legislative branch rather than one of the presidency IMHO!
My running score to this point remains 112 out of a possible 140.
Perhaps that is because, as in Texas, the "Bubbas" get to help right it if the participate in the process! A GOOD thing IMHO!
Watch what they do, not what they say.
NO argument from me there!
That's WRITE as in "...the "Bubbas" get to help WRITE it if the participate in the process" ya damn STUPID puter!
On this plank, I'd give it a 0. In fact, I'd give it a minus number if I could.
There are far too many bad EOs in existence, but there are also far too many bad laws that Congress wrote in existence. The solution isn't to eliminate all laws or EOs.
My running total is 85.
Executive orders, presidential decision directives, and other administrative mandates should have force ONLY within the executive branch of the government.
as a matter of constitutional law?
I don't know how it could be otherwise. No branch of the government can dictate to another branch except as specifically permitted in the Constitution (Congress can limit the jurisdiction of a court, for example).
I believe there in lies the problem! Some of X-42's executive orders went FAR beyond these bounds IMHO and no one did anything about it. That's my only reason for asking the question.
Roosevelt did the same thing BTW with the same result!
BINGO!
The Executive Order is a means by which the President tells the Executive Branch how to carry out his wishes as pertains to current law. ANY EO which creates new law can and should be overturned by Congress. The fact that Congress never acts should be held against THEM not the President.

Sad to say most of the adults stay home and let the nuts run these things. I have to double my heartburn pills every time I attend one.
...... was THAT in the platform? .......
Pick a plank we agree with next.... This one is a whopper on the average.

Regarding Thread #9 (Your Abstain). That is chicken answer. I suspect you should give yourself a "5" (Neutral). Otherwise, technically you give yourself a "0", since your score is based on 140 points.
