Good luck from the Houston Chapter of Freerepublic. We started with very structured meetings with all this protocol. About the third meeting we had an insurrection and kicked out the sitting president. We then elected a new president in name only just to comply with the Freerepublic rules. We made another decision to get to know each other, find out each other’s interest and strong points. It has worked like a charm. We have had a bunch of very successful freeps, complete with pretty good media coverage. We also take weekly trips to the range to express our second ammendment rights and last week we took money we raised and bought clothes, shoes, and school supplies to the poorest school in town. We delivered the goods to parents, kids, and teachers with a very strong message about self-reliance, and dependence on the nanny state. Last night we all met for dinner, and observed 9/11. Your chapter will work well if you let it naturally evolve. Good luck

Thank you for your excellent advice. I'm writing your name down to email when I need ideas. My idea was to "let it evolve" as you say. Not many people have time for dogmatice structure. I just wanted to organize for friendship purposes first, then watch for opportunities to FReep or express ourselves. I really have my heart set on supporting the military here as best we can.

You have some wonderful ideas. Thanks so much for your comments. I appreciate them, since I basically don't know what I'm doing. LOL I'll figure it out as I go. I know for a fact, smart people will join, who can help. Dutchgirl is on the ball and ready with a bunch of good ideas.

Hey, Spookbrat! It looks like the pickings here in Jax are pretty good. I'll be happy to help in any way I can. On the upside my workload is amazingly light, I have the net at work and my employer is hugely supportive of Republican causes. Time is not a problem...however, as a "relative" newbie to this kind of forum, I really don't know what a ping or a bump is. In the 9 years I have used the internet I have shunned anything remotely resembling a chat room in order to avoid perverts and obnoxious 12 year olds. It wasn't until I had logged copious lurking hours that I finally could not resist joining in some of the hugely addictive debates here in FReeperland. Any replies with technical assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Yay!!! Way to go Spookie. I sure wish I lived close enough to be in this new chapter. Did you ping Long Cut and SK1Thurman already? They're the only freepers I know in Jacksonville.

I was thinking as a first get together we might have a work/play day. I can find out from NAS Jax, if there are any families of servicemen who need a lawn mowed, or other rent a husband kind of activities. It also looks like we may have some "banner" days ahead if the Dems and the Dem controlled counties are going to put Florida through more election hell.

I still think that if Reno can pull off stealing the election from McBride that she will alienate so many independent voters, and remind them of the last vote count- military disenfranchisement- that Jeb will be a shoe in for a second term.

This being Jax I know that we will have to meet around football schedules. It wouldn't do any harm to ping (once I learn how) folks in Clay, Baker and Nassau counties. I know folks who drive here from Ormond Beach for religious activities. Once we are up and running we can change the First Coast to the FReep Coast.
