Mexico has some fine Universities.

They do but not generally for their underclasses. The Mexicans don't want to pay taxes, they want us to provide these "services" to their citizens.

Why would it occur to anyone to "get the guy legal"? Get him back to Mexico, then we can talk about legal in ten years, when he qualifies to legally immigrate.

Just dropped in to make a comment. I read the original article and had all the same reactions: the height of arrogance on their part. 5 years in the country, Americans forced to pay for their children's education (cha-ching! For breaking U.S. law, you get 5*5000=$20000 / kid!), and then they say: we want more. We want your colleges, too. It wasn't that long ago that most Americans didn't go to college.

But I agree with Dick Lamm that this is a personally risky thing for Tancredo. You can be sure that any actual deportation will be accompanied by tearful scenes of mama and sons being dragged away by evil white INS guys, with their two "citizen" children screaming at her side (Why can't we stay! Why can't we stay!).

Tancredo had better be ready to forcefully make a lot of good points:

There was a Governor of Arizona named Howard Pyle who sent the Arizona DPS to arrest all the polygamists in the Utah-Arizona border town of Short Creek, now called Colorado City. A reporter went along. The resulting photographs of old men and their 10 wives being herded into police vans destroyed Pyle's career. Even now, the Governor of Utah, Mike Leavitt, under pressure from women's groups and the image conscious Mormon Church is going after polygamists like Tom Green. It's not going over well. The Salt Lake papers are rightly asking - is this law enforcement or persecution? Whatever your opinion, this is the sort of publicity problem people run. In the case of Tom Green, O'Reilly helped cook his goose in the court of public opinion. If Tancredo cannot get public opinion on his side, he will end up looking like the big bad meanie.

My opinion is that his best bet would be to put the onus on the Apodaca's: turn up the heat enough to where they leave voluntarily, and we get stories about how young Jesus has enrolled in a Mexican university.

Barring that, the Mexican consulate and Reconquista Front scum will use this as an opportunity for agitation and demands for amnesty.

Reward lawbreakers? That sounds like a good idea! What will you give me if I rob your local 7-11 store?

All good points Regulator, good strategic thinking, but I counter and say, push the envelope and see what happens. I know MILLIONS of Americans may surprise you and will be cheering the scenes on, even though the liberal media propaganda apparati will be TELLING THEM TO BE SORRY AND UPSET.

It's getting critical mass and we are running out of options FAST.

You've seen the US map posted here.

The issue is to put the ONUS on THE MEXICAN CONSULATE in DENVER or if necessary the consular section of the Mexican mission to Washington, D.C. Tell them clearly you want them to cooperate with the deportation proceedings and to not obstruct the laws of the host country, and two, if they would be so kind, to counsel the young boy on his academic options in Mexico, introducing him to their many universities, and making that FULLY THEIR BUREAUCRATIC RESPONSIBILITY and TAX/TIME BURDEN not Uncle Sam's, and forcefully go on the offensive and throw off ANY suggestion that the young man is entitled to pursue his education any further in the United States due to his ILLEGAL STATUS.

Tancredo needs to go into this HARD with this kind of approach the Mexican consulate cannot wiggle out of nor the liberal media can spin to make him look like an ogre. We have already lost one good conservative congressman due to the illegal Mexican vote in California; how can we appease any further and lose more Congressmen or the nation for that matter!?

I might (I'd have to think this thru) grant one and only one exception to this situation and the "deal" would be unavailable to any others would would not or could not keep their end of the deal.

Jesus Apodaca will be sent post-haste to Camp Pendleton or Fort Bragg for service training and will be among the first batch of soldiers to be shipped out to fight Iraq when the call up starts.

Completing his SERVICE to AMERICA, after returning from battle he can be granted a waiver to overturn his illegal status.

We owe him nothing until then. He owes us a lot until then.

Tom Tancredo has a set, I'll say that for him! I wonder if he and Michelle Malkin have met. I hope so. They would make a good team.

Little by little, illegal aliens are demanding more and more, and idiots like Gephardt and the gang do nothing but pander to them. I hope that these boo-hoo stories that are published have the effect of waking up Americans who seem to be sleeping.

Your point is well taken Regulator. No doubt Tom will take political heat on this, maybe a lot.

Still, it must be noted that if and when measures are taken to end the crisis of Illegal Immigration there will be countless sob stories the leftist media will throw in public's face anyway. I see no way around it.

Tom took a bold step here by taking on political correctness front and center. Somebody has to do it! If his political career in a "safe" district is put in jeopardy over this then I'm afraid there is little hope that illegal immigration will ever end.

And maybe it's time we get a reading on how the public reacts when illegal aliens are rightfully deported. We may be pleasantly surprised in this post 9/11 era.

why does this kid get to go to college while Mr. Boosh is putting real U.S. citizens in the line of fire?

Big Bump on that. I can think of nothing more outrageous.

You would send a foreign criminal to learn our combat techniques and then when he has proved capable, you would turn him loose on America?

I may be fussy, but I don't want foreign criminals chasing after US citizens, especially not ones who are uptodate on our latest equipment and techniques. A criminal is a criminal and they should have to bear the punishment that comes with their selected carreer choice. IMMEDIATE DEPORTATION

Good on Tancredo...but ehy the heck did it take a CALL from Tancredo for the INS to trail this illegal family? They were featured in Colorado's most-circulated newspaper!! Don't any Colorado INS employees READ the paper??

Oh, I forgot...they're Mexican...silly me. If this was a European family, the INS would have been at their front door with handcuffs by now.

I think I agree with this tack that AIT suggests wholeheartedly. To any honest person it would show the Mexican government guys to be what they are: mooches whose marching orders are to try and subvert and undermine U.S. law any way they can, and most importantly, to try and chisel every last dollar out of the U.S.

If Tancredo were to put it this way, and expose the agenda of the Mexican government through their consulates, then I agree that he would avoid the negatives that might be associated with going after one family.

You both said don't back down, and I think that's right. It just has to be done from the right angle. And beating up on the slimy, paws-in-our-wallets Mexican Consuls is a winner all day long.

I like Mr. Tancredo. However, I disagree with him on this particular action of his. Illegal aliens are here because the american regime over the last 30 years has facilitated that they be here. All these people did was come north to live when the US in fact allowed it.

I think we should stop illegal immigration by requiring employers to validate via modem the credibility of documents that the government already requires for employers to check. You see government requires employers to look at and photo-copy documents to assure that these people are legal. The government does not require validation of said documents. Therefore, the illegals can buy fake documents on the black market easily. If we merely require the employers to do the last step and actually validate, as a credit card company would require, then the problem is 90% eliminated. Without this step, the whole enforcement system is dysfunctional.

If we were to do this as Reagan preferred, but liberal repubs and liberal dems wouldn't allow, then new illegal immigration would stop. We should also, as reagan also preferred, to forgive existing illegals if they've got any roots, such as on the job for even 1 year.

We should not throw little kids out of schools because their parents have been hired illegally. As a people we must remember that the children of these families are growing up here. We should let them stay.

Our country can better be itself and improve job prospects for its citizens by merely shutting off the flow of new illegal immigrants. After all, since 1970 about 25% of mexico is el norte. I'm with tancredo if he wants to shut off the flow. But not if he wants to do things like this.
