Jail for woman driver who ran over boyfriend

A woman who ran over her boyfriend when he ignored her has been jailed for two years.

Judge Gerrard Gordon told blonde Lesley O'Rourke, 31, that she had been "using a motor car as a weapon".

O'Rourke, of the Isle of Grain, Kent, has been cleared of attempted murder and assault but found guilty of two offences of dangerous driving in July and remanded for reports.

The court was told O'Rourke drove over Timothy Taylor, 19, who escaped with bruising and cuts despite being run over by both sets of wheels of O'Rourke's car.

Judge Gordon, who also banned O'Rourke from driving for two years, said she had been in such an "emotional and self-centred state" that she did not think of the consequences of what she was doing.

He accepted that apart from this incident, she was a "perfectly decent citizen".

But the reports showed she was still preoccupied with her perceived hurt which "pales into insignificance with what you did that evening", said the judge.

The court was told screeching of wheels and the revving of O'Rourke's Vauxhall Astra car engine, was captured on a "chilling" 999 call as onlookers watched the drama in December, last year.

Earlier, O'Rourke had thrown a pint of lager over Mr Taylor, dumped his belongings on to the road in front of a pub and driven over them.

O'Rourke told the court she did not notice Mr Taylor on the ground and had not deliberately driven over him.

Story filed: 11:21 Friday 6th September 2002

Ms. O'Rourke proves she is not a woman to tolerate being 'ignored'.

Judge Gerrard Gordon told blonde Lesley O'Rourke,

I really don't want to get started on the blonde thing again....but why is her hair relevant to the story?

Because otherwise, the judge's statement of the obvious -- [you] had been "using a motor car as a weapon" -- would be seen as unnecessary.

"You have such pretty blonde hair I'm going to overlook the fact that you're an obsessed psycho b!#*% and drop the charges that really apply to this situation--attempted murder and assault. You will not be permitted to drive for two years. I will drive you around myself, 'kay?"

Yes, I'm sure that aside from being a homicidal psychob*tch that she was quite a lovely lady. And after all, this was Great Britain and all, so the blame will be placed where it belongs, on the car, and a great debate will ensue whether or not private subjects should be allowed to own motor vehicles, given their danger to society and the environment and the availability of public transportation... /sarcasm OFF>

The court was told O'Rourke [31] drove over Timothy Taylor, 19...

Timothy had better stick with young ladies who don't have a driver's license yet.

Jeez, talk about what must have been a small car.

If my wife tried that to me with our expanded Dodge Ram Van, I would look like one of the armadillos that frequently litter our Texas roads ... smashed, bloody, and lying there with all four limbs up in the air ...

(... and the fifth "limb" that might be up in the air would be missing.)

It is a good thing that this liberal had a small vehicle instead of a big honking SUV. Or young Timmy would not have been around for the trial.

Thank You, I will be happy to unload your hay and store it in the loft for you. : )

Yesterday, was a hay stacking day. Had planned on washing a wagon to get the dirt and grime off but it was too late in the day by the time everything else was done.

I do not even want to think about getting ran down by an angry GF that is driving a team of horses pulling a wagon. Those iron rimmed wheels are heavy ... not to mention those horse shoes on the horses.......... : )
