A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 9/20/02

This was so good, I just had to use it (from the White House.gov website, from Ari's press briefing today)

The President began his day this morning with a phone call to Prime Minister Balkenende of the Netherlands. The two spoke for approximately 15 minutes. They discussed the situation in Iraq. The President thanked President Balkenende for the Netherlands' strong support as expressed in a recent speech that was given to the United Nations by Netherlands.

The President also this morning called President Putin, of Russia. The two spoke for approximately 30 minutes. They discussed the situation in Iraq. The President talked about the need to make certain that the United Nations pass resolutions that are firm, that accomplish the goals of disarmament and don't let Iraq avoid responsibility.

Following the meeting, the President met with a group of Republican governors who are in town visiting Washington. And then the President had a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister and Defense Minister in the Oval Office. During that meeting, the two discussed -- or the three discussed the ABM treaty, the situation in Georgia, as well as the situation in Iraq.

And then the President had a meeting with Senator Phil Gramm and Senator Zell Miller, a bipartisan group that is working to get passed homeland security in the Senate.

The President will later depart for Camp David, where he will spend the weekend.

Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I'd also consider a UPS battery backup, though either way (UPS or laptop) could be a few hundred dollars real quick.

Does an orange red tie get credit for being in the orange family??? :-)

I'd say yes, and maybe reflects the fact that he's a little ticked off today, what with the stupidity of the Euros, especially the Germans!

Mtn Grl - Does an orange red tie get credit for being in the orange family??? :-)

Yep! It looks pretty orange to me and therefore is way up there in my estimation. I love that tie (and the man wearing it - hehehe!)

Tornadoes are frightful things, because of their unpredictability! I am terrified of them. In 1979 most of my husband's family lost their homes in a mammoth F-4 that practically destroyed the town of Wichita Falls, Texas. We drove in to check on them the day after the tornado hit and the damage was unbelievable. Half of the city had been reduced to shredded toothpicks. His brother and one sister lost their homes, but thankfully all of them were alive.

And you guys are afraid to live in California because of our (very) occasional earthquake. I have lived in CA all of my life and can remember maybe a dozen earthquakes. That's one earthquake about every four years. And most of those have been tiny little things. Since we moved away from the Andreas Fault twenty years ago, we have felt no earthquakes at all. ;-)

Prayers for all in that area. I just emailed my friends in Lafayette IN., upon hearing about the tornados. Where is Ball State and Indiana State U? Their son is going to school at one of those, but I'm not sure which one.

I was stationed in Wichita Falls in 1975 at Shepard. The last weekend that I was there they assigned me to be CQ (Command of Quarters). It meant that I was "in charge" of the squadron for an 8 hour shift. Of course we had to have a tornado watch going on during my shift. Now this was not a good thing; to put a California girl as CQ during a tornado watch. The squadron was brand new buildings that had no basement or shelter of any kind. That had to be one of the longest nights on my life.

Psalm 71

God the Rock of Salvation

1 In You, O LORD, I put my trust;
        Let me never be put to shame.
        2Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape;
        Incline Your ear to me, and save me.
        3Be my strong refuge,
        To which I may resort continually;
        You have given the commandment to save me,
        For You are my rock and my fortress.

        4Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
        Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
        5For You are my hope, O Lord GOD;
        You are my trust from my youth.
        6By You I have been upheld from birth;
        You are He who took me out of my mother's womb.
        My praise shall be continually of You.

        7I have become as a wonder to many,
        But You are my strong refuge.
        8Let my mouth be filled with Your praise
        And with Your glory all the day.

        9Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
        Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
        10For my enemies speak against me;
        And those who lie in wait for my life take counsel together,
        11Saying, "God has forsaken him;
        Pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him."

        12O God, do not be far from me;
        O my God, make haste to help me!
        13Let them be confounded and consumed
        Who are adversaries of my life;
        Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor
        Who seek my hurt.

        14But I will hope continually,
        And will praise You yet more and more.
        15My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness
        And Your salvation all the day,
        For I do not know their limits.
        16I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD;
        I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only.

        17O God, You have taught me from my youth;
        And to this day I declare Your wondrous works.
        18Now also when I am old and grayheaded,
        O God, do not forsake me,
        Until I declare Your strength to this generation,
        Your power to everyone who is to come.

        19Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high,
        You who have done great things;
        O God, who is like You?
        20You, who have shown me great and severe troubles,
        Shall revive me again,
        And bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
        21You shall increase my greatness,
        And comfort me on every side.

        22Also with the lute I will praise You--
        And Your faithfulness, O my God!
        To You I will sing with the harp,
        O Holy One of Israel.
        23My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You,
        And my soul, which You have redeemed.
        24My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long;
        For they are confounded,
        For they are brought to shame
        Who seek my hurt.

A late read of the dose! Been out on the Friday night freep for the troops, but had to stop in and see the dose! Thanks Rintense, I want to say how much I appreciate you and this thread. Sometimes when you go and read other ones, you really realize what a wonderful "hostess'" you are to all of us!
