Hope all is well with you. You know, I always hear people say they would be scared in California because of the earthquakes, but believe me, your storms would terrify me! Prayers going up for your area for no bad storms!

You poor thing! As the mother of only one child, and that a son, I never had to go through that. While my prayer has nothing to do with her current date, I pray God gives your daughter His strongest angels at all times, to defend her when judgment is tested and all your training needs to be brought to bear. I know there were times when God protected me during those hairy-scary dating years, in my naivete, against the wiles of unscrupulous people. One of the worst worked with my father! I never dated anyone without my father's consent (my mother had died by the time I started dating), and the guys had to come to the house first to meet my stepdad, but even some of those guys fooled my stepfather.

I want to thank EVEYRONE on this thread
for providing a wealth of information which I get nowhere else (especially being without cable), including the general news forum on FR, regarding what our esteemed President and his Cabinet and wife and doing. It is a daily synopsis of world events as they touch President Bush's life; it is an up-close look at his reactions to what is going on, heads-up on news events to watch, it is links to fantastic information about others who interact with Bush ... it is the best!

I have a friend who got a reconditioned PC with all the necessary Windows software included, modem, etc., for under $500 a couple years ago by shopping the Internet. Works great for her.

This is from James Tarantos' Best of the Web (Wall St. Journal daily Email): "CNN reports Sen. Jesse Helms, ranking Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee, has floated the idea of "withdrawing U.S. forces from their bases in Germany if [Chancellor Gerhard] Schroeder wins re-election and Germany fails to join a 'constructive' dialogue on Iraq." Even Schroeder's opponent, Edmund Stoiber, is threatening not to allow the U.S. to use those bases if the U.N. doesn't approve an effort to liberate Iraq."
I doubt old Jesse really intends this, as it undercuts our national security interests, but I am glad to see some sabre-rattling going on.
I like Rush's response that kitkat posted (the US "should stop sending them ANY money for the next two years and see if they decide to show some gratitude").

What a frightful experience, being chased by a tornado! Glad you're okay.

You are absolutely right about all the things the Daily Dose is. It's impossible to plow through everything on FR every day, but I always know that the really important news will show up right here.

I was visiting my family in Michigan in 1980 and got a taste of that pea-green sky, blow-the-man-down weather. My son was three and a half and he was terrified as we fled to the basement during what the weatherman said would be "some thunderstorms," one morning. My (real) dad always parked his car in this one spot and that day, he had the strongest impression not to park there, so he didn't. When the storm hit, a tree fell where his car usually sat. He was driving a heavy, heavy truck when it hit -- not quite a tornado, but as close as it gets -- and he couldn't control the vehicle; it was blown backwards. Damage was over a million dollars for just a few minutes' of the big wind. I'll never forget that erie, pea green, DARK, sky.
I remember as a kid, living there, sitting on the roof and watching the skies when tornado watches were on, and playing in the neighbor's tornado cellar, being very glad they had one close by.

And it isn't as if all we have given [the Germans] happened a thousand years ago or a hundred years ago. The Berlin wall came down in 1990 [1989?] after all. How short is their memory, how absent their gratitude, how hateful are their comments! I would have expected something like that from Pravda in the middle of the cold war, not the land of many of my ancestors. Speaking as one who is of predominantly German extraction, I think a huge part of this attitude is the Germans never adjusted to the reality that their desire to dominate all other cultures failed, twice. In one century. And I don't believe it was expunged, even by the humiliation, suffering, and deaths, of losing their bid to dominate the world after failing to win two world wars.

What's the name and location of the store that had the pictures of George and Laura?
Maybe I can shop there, too, next time I'm in L.A.

Ahhh Mo !! I looked at that ghost picture, kind of knowing what to expect, but not realizing that my cats were sitting on the table behind me. Now all three of them have scattered, one crashed into his food dish on the way out of the kitchen, the other jumped (fluffed up tail and all) out the window onto the screened-in porch and the third is somewhere upstairs (most likely under the bed) It was hysterical, I wish I had a video, esp. of the one who (if he was a human) would probably have wet his pants !!

I just read in our local paper that there was indeed damage done nearby by the storms last night, resulting in 9 injuries, 2 of them serious.
They couldn't Medevac the one girl out.....an 11 year old girl.....because the weather prevented the helicopter from landing.
She's in critical condition this morning. Prayers would be appreciated.
To: ohioWfan
prayers heavenward for this little girl. Thanks for sharing, ohio. <><

What's the name and location of the store that had the pictures of George and Laura? Maybe I can shop there, too, next time I'm in L.A.It's called "The Grand Manner." It's in Topanga Plaza shopping mall in Canoga Park. It's on the second floor, near Nordstrom's. It's a nice place...nice collectibles, frames, stuffed animals, gifts, etc.
