Terrorists storm temple in Gandhinagar Agencies New Delhi, September 24

Three suspected terrorists have entered a temple in Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar and resorted to indiscriminate firing, killing at least 25 and injuring several others.

The terrorists entered the Akshardham temple belonging to the Swaminarayan sect around 1700 hours and fired at devotees.

"Seven men and women and four children are dead. Twenty-five people are injured and the injured are being taken out of the temple to Gandhinagar hospital," Inspector R B Rawal in the Gujarat state intelligence room told Reuters.

"There were over 50 people inside the temple when three gunmen opened fire inside the temple," Gujarat Home Secretary K Nitya Nandam told AFP.

State police control room spokesman G L Singhal had said earlier that four people had been killed in the shooting.

A television news channel put the toll at 6 dead and 40 injured.

According to an eyewitness, the three terrorists were wearing Army uniform and were armed with AK 47 rifles and sten guns.

A local police official said the terrorists had thrown a bomb at the temple, which is on fire.

According to initial reports, police forces have surrounded the temple and efforts are being made to evict people inside the temple. There is utter chaos in and around the temple.

A gun battle is reportedly on between the security forces and the terrorists. Commondos have reached the temple complex and the Army has also been called to deal with the situation.

The temple is close to the residence of the Gujarat Governor and Chief Minister and other VVIPs. The Gujarat State Assembly and Secretariat are within two kilometers of the temple complex.

The Gujarat government had received intelligence reports on the possibility of such an incident happening. Several VVIps visit the large temple complex daily.

Doctors in Ahmedabad have been told to report to hospitals.

New Delhi, September 24 FLASH (India) Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday night strongly condemned terrorist attack on Swaminarain temple in Gandhinagar and asked the government to take urgent steps to evacuate all the pilgrims trapped in the temple as also to nab those responsible for the crime.

"I am shocked by the terrorists attack on the hallowed shrine, Swaminarain temple. I condemn this outrageous act with all the force at my command," Gandhi told reporters at her residence.

Pakistani Information Minister Nisar Memon condemned the temple attack and said it reflected the failure of Hindu nationalist leaders to build a tolerant society in Gujarat.

If the Americans and Israelis didn't exist, one would imagine that radical Islam would finish their domination of Europe which seems on its way in France and England ... but I'm wondering when they might go after China? (not that they would be very successful) ... they're already very strong in Indonesia and Malaysia I've heard ... and much of North Africa ...

It's not that far off, IMHO, that Radical Religionist for Peace (Islamists), would try to march up and into the Vatican from different directions and try to take that place down, too, or at least cause a lot of suffering inside. These people need to be stopped, for the sake of WORLD CIVILIZATION.

Islamabad, September 24: Pakistan's government condemned an attack on the Akshardham temple on Tuesday and denied any role in the violence. Information Minister Nisar Memon said the attack reflected the failure of Hindu nationalist leaders in India to build a tolerant society in the troubled state of Gujarat, where violence between Hindus and Muslims has flared this year.

This kinda reminds me of the various sordid (and assorted) 'white trash' in handcuffs placed in cruisers on "Cops", always bellyaching from the back seat that "I didn't DOOOO anything!!!!!" (even after it has been caught on tape).
