Deconstructing the deconstructionists. Revising history back toward truth. A noble effort, and one rendered well here.

Calm down, Ladies and Gentlemen. Prof. Lefkowitz is a most reluctant warrior on the battlefronts that so many of us enjoy. I read her book years ago and can only describe it as tepid. Her only interest is as a trained, old-fashioned classicist. Her interest in these matters is strictly relegated to what she knows of her area of study. Thankfully, her passion for her discipline demands that she stand up for historical accuracy. Greater political or cultural matters are of no interest to her. She doesn't write about historical revisionism in general but simply revisionism that assails what she knows of the ancient Greek & Egyptian cultures.

I'll never ever forget how my son's 1st grade Harcourt Brace reader featured an Aesop's fable and then after that had a brief biographical article about him. Imagine my surprise to learn that Aesop was actually an African storyteller. The sketch of him looked totally Mediterranean, but I was assured that he was, in fact, African. (Actually he was born a slave on the island of Samos, but I digress....).
Nobody gave a shit that this was incorrect....not the teacher, not the district office, not the curriculum director. That was our final year in government schools and we now homeschool.

Got missed during previous sweeps, looks like a good ping for the list. Please FREEPMAIL me if you want on, off, or alter the "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" PING list --
Archaeology/Anthropology/Ancient Cultures/Artifacts/Antiquities, etc.
The GGG Digest -- Gods, Graves, Glyphs (alpha order)

Simply PC "feel good" nonsense. Evryone knows that it was the ancestors of the present day Mexicans that taught the Africans.

I read this book when it came out, which was about the time my daughter was told by a teacher that Cleopatra was black. I asked the teacher about that and she said it made black kids proud to have a famous, black queen in their history. I told her pride in a heritage based on myth was false pride and potentally harmful when these children learned it was not true.
