To get a good perspective on the enormity of the problem, compare Iowa to Nevada.

Any chance you can help me out here and modify the img src tag to be height=592 and width=868--Something went screwy on the upload and with the current size you barely see what the map is about. Thanks.

OH well. It was Injun country. Then it was Federal terrotories. Then it became states. Now it's Federal territory again. Heck, maybe one day it'll be injun land again.

Funny how the enviro-nuts out East live in states which are privately owned. They seem to enjoy inflicting their every brain fart on the government occupied West.
Not that I'm bitter about choking on smoke for 2 out of 3 summer months.

It's worse than it appears. The map is 7 years old and is before Clinton locked up Staircase-Escalante and many other land grabs. As well, it does not include the land-grabbers who operate locally and at the state level.

Don't forget the place in Utah with the huge coal reserves which was placed off limits by the previous President.
I think Riady had some connection there but I don't remember the details.

Yeah, I noticed that 1995 date too. I should have highlighted it.

It is going to be privately owned land.

I think the Utah coal reserves are accounted for as fed land on this map.

Thanks for the ping!

Maybe Carry_Okie has some figures that are accurate but I don't believe this map is accurate at all. My father was a right-of-way agent for the USFS and he says the feds own 75% of California. I don't see 75% marked here. I don't have any facts or figures and would really like to have some. I wouldn't even know how to go about researching this.
