In a highly charged speech Al Gore asserted that an attack on Saddam Hussein “will quickly be replaced by the reign of fear and that the “That concept [the rule of law] would be replaced by the notion that there is no law but the discretion of the president of the United States.” He then said, “After September 11, we had enormous sympathy, goodwill and support around the world, We’ve squandered that and in one year we've replaced that with fear, anxiety and uncertainty, not at what the terrorists are going to do but at what we’re going to do.”
As per usual, leftwing journalists lapped up Gore’s comments without once referring to their stupidity or his hypocrisy. To begin with, there is no international rule of law. Regrettable as that may be, it is also a fact. That means that whenever a nation is attacked or threatened with attack it cannot call on the local police to defend it. This is a terrible lesson of history that leftwing journalists, academics and their fellow scribblers refuse to accept with respect to America.
Therefore, to suggest, as Gore does, that Bush is acting like a vigilante is a serious attempt to undermine the President’s efforts to bring down the Saddam regime. To a man like Gore, power, not patriotism, is what matters.
Gore states: “Now, back in 1991, I was one of a handful of Democrats in the United States Senate to vote in favor of the resolution endorsing the Persian Gulf War, and I felt betrayed by the first Bush administration's hasty departure from the battlefield," claimed Gore in a San Francisco speech, before blasting the current administration for "pushing for a vote (on Iraq) in this Congress immediately before the election.”
What the noble Gore didn’t say, and what our journalists didn’t report, is that in 1991 he sold his vote on the Gulf War. The night before the Senate vote on the war, Gore visited Alan Simpson and Bob Dole, who were lining up support for the war resolution, and bluntly asked, to their astonishment: “How much time will you give me if I support the president?” They told him they could arrange 20 minutes of television time. Gore made it clear that the 20 minutes had to be in prime time. When Republican Senate Secretary Howard Greene told him there was a scheduling problem, Gore flared up: “Dammit, Howard! If I don't get twenty minutes tomorrow I’m going to vote the other way.”
Gore got his speaking time and the President got his vote. The country was on the verge of war and scores of thousands of troops were readying to put their lives on the line, and all Al Gore could think of was selling his vote for a lousy 20 minutes of prime time television.
This is the same Gore who supported Clinton’s view that “A failure to respond could embolden Saddam to act recklessly, signaling to him that he can, with impunity, develop these weapons of mass destruction or threaten his neighbors... And it would permanently damage the credibility of the United Nations Security Council to act as a force for promoting international peace and security. We continue to hope — indeed, pray — that Saddam will comply, but we must be prepared to act if he does not.”
Not only did he agree with Clinton’s assessment of Saddam, Gore also supported this statement by Daschle: “Look, we have exhausted virtually all our diplomatic effort to get the Iraqis to comply with their own agreements and with international law. Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so? That's what they're saying. This is the key question. And the answer is we don't have another option. We have got to force them to comply militarily.”
Now that Bush is doing what Clinton, Daschle, Byrd, etc, said should have been done in 1998 Gore is virtually calling him a warmonger.
Editor: Unfortunately, the truth about Al Gore is not something our Bush-hating Australian newspapers will ever publish.

Sheesh, Al...I hadn't read this thoroughly before but now he's saying that we, the USA, are worse than the terrorists!! That the world is more afraid of the GW than UBL. Good grief, Al...knock a little sense into yourself, please.

This is Algore his true self! Never forget his three circles: first circle had Gore and Joe: second circle with Jessie Jackson and some other special interest heavy: third circle had America---we came in dead last! Algore is like a sail in a stiff breeze that has all but torn away from its staff, flapping up and down, whipping in and out in every direction at once.
