ANTI-FLAG
ME
Posted on 09/30/2002 7:44:20 AM PDT by MotleyGirl70
Sunday morning I woke and went to Micky Ds to get my husband a big breakfast and some other kind of breakfast food (I bought myself a large coffee).
As I waited in line behind 100,000,000 other people I looked to my left and saw three boys; Id say they couldnt have been older than 16 years old. Description of said white punks listed below:
Boy 1: Frizzed out hair, John Lennon glasses and a jacket that was infested with pins and patches. One of those patches read: Anti-Flag. (this set me off)
Boy 2: Blue hair, chubby and he had a top hat on.
Boy 3: Lets just say my cat craps bigger stool than this little twerp.
So as I was waiting in line I asked Boy 1; Whats up with that patch, Anti-Flag?
He said; Its a band.
I said Are you anti-American?
The punk said; Yes
I said Why?
To which he said: Vietnam, WWI and WWII did us no good. America kills the innocent.
At this point my blood is boiling and Im ready to punch this punk in the face and my food order is soon to be picked up.
I said; I dont give a shit what you think. When you get a job; and start paying taxes and contribute something to society your opinion doesnt mean shit. So take your 60s peace mentality and shove it up your ass. If you three represent the future of America, it scares me, it scares me very much. You want to want to be anti-American, go tell your b.s. to a United States veteran who fought for the very freedom you have. (
.I wanted to go on but I had to pick up my order and leave. I got a nod from some guy waiting in line in agreement with my confrontation with this kid.)
At that point I picked up my order, they left and I made my exit.
Is this the future of America? Anti-Flag?

Hi MG! I agree with your sentiment. In the future, i would ask that you put an appropriately placed asterisk in the expletive. Jim Rob has asked us not to use profanity as this is a "family forum."
Thx, 'Pod

Was this before or after you had coffee that morning?
To: MotleyGirl70
They are 16 year old punks, how do you expect them to act? - they probably couldn't even find Vietnam on a map. Don't worry, as they get older they will turn to the right (like after they get their first paycheck or are denied a job so some less qualified minority can take their place)

I'll remember that for next time. :(

Good for you Motley, telling off those little punks.
To: MotleyGirl70
I'd be willing to bet one, or both, of the following:
1)that they have ex-hippie parents
2) that they are merely parroting an anti-American version of history as indoctrinated by their teachers.
That having been said, I used to hang out with people a bit like that, in my younger, stupider, liberal days.
It was a childish phase. I got over it.

I knew there was a reason why I stick with the drive-thru. Seriously, I would not have shown as much restraint.

My son went and seen this band last Friday night in D.C., the band members got the crowd fired-up by saying anti-George Bush slogans, my son says he can still like their music even though he doesn't agree with their politics.

You're tough!
I did a similiar thing a few years back. I was in Hong Kong, on a beach, that looks over to PRC beyond the straits.
Some punk kids were throwing bottles on the rock rip-rap, and all the broken glass was showering onto the sandy beach. Being extremely pissed, I walked over to the punks, lifted one up by the shirt collar, and yelled into his face "Do you know how f##king lucky you are to live here, and not over there?"
Slammed him down on the ground, as they looked at me in amazement, having no clue what I said.
But I felt better!

Welcome to Anti-Flag's official home on the web!The "musical stylings" of Anti-Flag:
"Kill The Rich"
A billionaire chatting with his friends
They've gotta stop and laugh
"We've really got those suckers fooled,
We've gotta 'em trained like rats!"
The riches plot, control your thoughts, to make you blame yourself
"The rich are rich because they're smarter than me.."
You're taught this is right, that it's your fault
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
They throw a war like a party saying,
"It's for a moral cause.."
Telling you if you're a patriot that
"YOU BETTER DO WHAT YOU'RE TOLD!"
You burn a flag, you're gonna hang,
Brainwashed nationalism makes you a tool
They're getting rich by selling weapons to both countries,
You never think to question what you're told!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
They're gonna give you nothing
They want to take way the little they call something
You know you're being used still you play along
If you're not complacent,
You're doing something wrong
One day they'll push to far
That marks the beginning of their end
We'll being them crashing down until they're all dead
They're all dead, they're all dead!
The time is growing near..
Put the trigger to the man...
Ok, let's go, kill 'em!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!
KILL, KILL, KILL!!!

Thanks for the warning, I'll avoid this location, The lost hashbrowns I'll confess is not just a North ave problem. I'm near Brookfield Square and the screwed up orders at the Moorland location are legendary. I'll compare their record with anyone.

Have no fear, I don't think this is the future of America. Just some mixed up stupid kids. There are plenty of good kids in America too. Don't give up hope.
To: TheCause
I'm right there with you TheCause, and OKC can take those red-diaper commie kids with him. Freedom isn't free, even if you didn't have to fight for it!
To: MotleyGirl70
My wife is a history teacher and I can assure you that the current state of education means that a 16 year old would have very little knowledge about US history.
What is covered -- major dissident factions like labor and womans suffrage along with slavery are covered in detail and are highlighted. The Founding Fathers and most "heroes" are ignored.
If the kid comes from a left leaning home he may really believe this crap.
I do want to point out that my father was a card carrying communist and I turned out conservative so he can change but it takes years and years of thinking and studying.
To: MotleyGirl70
I said Are you anti-American? The punk said; Yes
Next time :)
"Then what are you doing in here supporting Mcdonalds and the spread of American culture? Shouldn't you be out sucking down some bean curd and crafting a pair of shoes from old tires?"
To: MotleyGirl70
Being in college right now i would definitly say No, that is not the future. He is probably an isolated incident, and he thinks he is "cool" now because he emulates his underground rock bands by being anti-american. Most of the people i know are very pro american and support Bush and the war on terrorism. I live in a very blue collar suburban town and just about every male from my home town considered, is considering, or did enlist in the military. The question in high school wasnt what college but what branch! In this is in Connecticut!
/sorry about the grammar, im not good with mornings

To: MotleyGirl70
I went to a concert a couple years ago that included these Anti-Flag idiots. This was shortly after Bush was inaugurated, so you can imagine the BS they rambled about in between their "songs". My friends and I just laughed at them, but a bunch of kids (mostly matching the description of the punks in your original post) were taking them seriously and cheering them on. Kind of alarming.
I wouldn't take it seriously, it's just part of a rebellious phase. When I began working and paying more attention to the news, my views swung drastically to the right. Many of those punks will grow up and see what the real world is like, the ones who don't will be flipping burgers and scrubbing toilets.

To: dakine
Probably not.
I used to like Rage Against the Machine once; now I realize they are a bunch of unrepentant Marxists.
To: BeAllYouCanBe
Yeah i come from a very left leaning family too (not quite communist though). I used to have that Rage against the machine mentality when i was real young. I think the major turning point for me was when i turned 15 and saw my first paycheck and saw how much went to taxes. I started thinking more clearly from that point on.

I'm surprised you found three 16 year-olds awake on a Sunday morning, much less out and about.
To: MotleyGirl70
I had the misfortune of experiencing Anti-Flag in the flesh, as they were an opening band when I attended a Rage Against The Machine concert (I am well aware of the implications of attending neo-marxist social functions, and I can only say in my defense 1) I was much younger 2) I really had not given much thought to the ideology behind their music 3) In all fairness, they were pretty good live 4)This was one of the catalysts that made me realize that the Left is alive and well, and that active enngagement is the only rational response). But Anti-Flag combined the worst elements of modern punk music (they make Sid Vicious sound like Mozart) with a healthy dose of anarcho-socialist nonsense. Even the crowd was pretty much dead silent during and after their performance.
Overall, I would say they were less repellent than the other pre-show fixture at a RATM concert, some angry, angry little woman spewing obscenities in defense of Mumia Abu Jamal, Cop-killer extraordinaire (that takes some gall when you consider the concert took place in Philadelphia). But there were a few important lessons I learned:
1. The younger fans are just repeating what they think they may have heard in a song.
2. Anyone young man who has the time and interest to sew on small patches representing even smaller bands and ideologies are probably doing so to identify with some social unit, as they are no doubt rejects in the circles they are supposed to operate in (read: never, ever going to talk to girls).
3. Aside from hoping that their peers will beat them into the straight and narrow (unlikely, even in the current patriotic climate) or for parental guidance (equally unlikey at that point), your anger only fuels the sort of disaffected impudence with which you are dealing.
That said, I probably would have said something too, but more in the vein of humiliating him publicly rather than just straighforward confrontation...a little cruelty goes a long way in bringing our morally retarded youth around.
At any rate, I applaud your love of America and your willingness to defend it; if more persons were like you these morons would have to drop the facade of having thought such stupid things up rationally.

To: MotleyGirl70
And in answer to your last question, I don't think so. People who remain in that mindframe go nowhere, it is the most likely consequence of being an idiot.
America prevails, regardless.
To: mn12
I voted for Dollar Bill in '92:
1)Because I was an idiot
2)Because I thought Bubba was "cool" and he was on MTV and I was politically ignorant.
I know and realize I didn't know much about politics back then at the age of 22. But at least I wasn't anti-American.
I don't take my freedom for granted. These punks have no idea how fortunate they are.
