They might mean the border between the United States of America and The Peoples Republic of Washington DC.

...or the border with neighboring Prince George's county.
To: newsperson999
It was in DC, near the Maryland border. They are waiting for "forensic evidence" to see if it's related. They apparently arrested someone last night in that area, but are now saying that he/she isn't the shooter, but is being held on other charges.
I got the impression there is something dissimilar about last night's shooting (compared to the MD shootings) that is making them hesitate, although that wasn't stated at the last press conference.

It looks like this link has been pulled by WP. They probably jumped the gun (pardon the pun).

The sixth murder was on upper Georgia Ave. in D.C. The second shooting (and first killing) on Wednesday (at the Shoppers Food Warehouse in Glenmont/Wheaton) happened just off Georgia Ave. The locations of the shootings on both Wednesday evening and Thursday morning were such that the shooters appeared both days to be headed towards the part of D.C. where last night's shooting occurred.

Initially Brokejaw tried to insinuate this was a militia type murder because the victims were all minorites. They quickly had to back down when it became clear that some of the victims were white.........
QUICK TO CONDEMN.....NEVER APOLOGYZE

And the first shooting (no injuries) was at Michaels at 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, at 13850 Georgia Ave., Aspen Hill. If this murder fits the pattern, the murderer or murderers are out still out there on their killing spree.

I watched a bit of Kyra Phillips on CNN over the lunch hour. As she held a .223 bullet in her manicured hand, she smiled tensely at the former DC SWAT team member and said (and you can't make this up), "This is a really accurate bullet, isn't it?"
It had me on the floor in hysterics. Now I'm not a hunter, but my Daddy was & he did teach me how to shoot, and I don't ever remember him telling me that bullets had any degree of accuracy all by themselves.

The ATF weenie in the WashCompost picture was claiming that it was most likely a scoped, bolt action, 30-06.

Another shooting reported
here as well...a woman, no details last time I checked a few moments ago, a Freeper's wife was there when it happened.

I'm thankful that I moved in 2001 away from Silver Spring. All of those shootings occurred in places I've been or streets I've walked along going to work or shop. If the one that happened last night on Georgia is connected(does it matter to those who are dead or injured?) then that's just down the street from my Grandma's house and up the street(Silver Spring) is the apartment building where I lived.

Cripes I am so glad my parents just moved from the cess pool that is PG Country out to Emmittsburg. It's bad enough having my sister live in Mont County near all the shootings but I also have an uncle in Langley Park and a good friend in Hyattsville. I am physically ill.

copycat???
I've been wondering about the timing of this with the release of information that al Quaeda was planning this kind of thing. Could someone be pre-emptively copying al Quaeda? Whoever it is, is nuts, so the mind boggles trying to figure out which species of nut.

Give the poor twit a break. The .223 was specifically designed for accuracy. I believe it was intended as a deer hunting mod of the .220 Swift. I've been out of this loop for several decades, but that's how I remember it.

2 of the Oregon 6 are at large. Could someone be p.o.ed about their little terrorist cell being busted?
To: Catspaw
"This is a really accurate bullet, isn't it?" Sure Honey, it's a "boat-tail" which means it can be used underwater too...
To: js1138
I don't think it was developed for deer hunting, I believe it was developed for the U.S. Army just before the Vietnam War. The .223 is a very poor hunting cartridge. For deer hunting a .243 caliber is usually the minimum recommended, but .223 can get the job done depending on the gun used, shooter's skill, and size of the animal.

Well, my Daddy did teach me that in order to shoot a bullet, it has to be in a gun. Then the gun has to be aimed and fired. Daddy also said that a gun's only as good as the person aiming the gun, so unless that bullet can shoot all by itself, sans gun and sans shooter, Kyra was holding one helluva bullet.

As I say, I'm out of the loop on this. I recall a .223 from the 60s.

You have to admit that ammunition is designed for different purposes, and some is designed for long range accuracy. This is a trivial subject.

The Oregon terror cell arrests started this morning around 6 a.m. The first shooting occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday. I don't know if they had foreknowledge of the arrests. At one of the press conferences today, one of the authorities said around 100 law enforcement were used in the Oregon arrests, so it wasn't a matter of them just turning themselves in.

Sure Honey, it's a "boat-tail" which means it can be used underwater too...Ol' Kyra was none too bright when she worked for one of our local (Green Bay) TV stations...but I'd like to see one of them boat-tail bullets. Do they have a little rudder on them to keep them running straight or sumthin'?

Except for the Ar-15's, most people who have .223 bolt action rifles are either "plinkers" or varminters (coyote, oppossum, etc) or targeting on an outdoor range. Ruger Mini 14's favored by ranchers because they come in carbine length, are inexpensive, and ammo is relatively cheap and effective.
