Another DC-area sniper-style shooting
Wife (FReeper nina0113) | October 4, 2002 | Steve0113

Posted on 10/04/2002 12:02:50 PM PDT by Steve0113

Another broad-daylight shooting just occurred, this time in Fredericksburg, VA, just off I-95. It's not even on the news yet.

About an hour's drive south of where the Montgomery County shootings happened, a woman was shot in the parking lot of a Michaels fabric store. My wife was in the store at the time. The victim had left the store and carried her purchases to her minivan. She unlocked the minivan and was loading her stuff into it when she was shot. No sign of the shooter.

No one else was injured.

The woman was taken away in an ambulance, condition unknown. Her license plate (which I'm not going to post) indicated that she had several children.

FYI, that map is not clear.

Agreed - the version one click further out shows an I-95 shield just off the southern edge of where this map ends.

Good point re the shooter at the CIA. Didn't they eventually find out he had some terrorism motive, too?

equivalent of suicide bombings without the suicide

If I were a terrorist that is what I would do.

I just had another thought - a .308 or .30-06 firing .223 sub caliber ammo, such as the Rem. Accelerator is accurate from 800 yd if you know what you are doing, and the 55 gr projectile fragments upon impact.

This practice was used by both sides in nothern Ireland.

Don't even give our big government police state thugs ideas.

Leave it up to private store owners.

They mentioned a white van. I'm guessing the occupant of the van may be using the van for concealment. His buddy drives him into position, and he fires out through a window or sliding door. They could have made some attempt to sound proof the van, so as to somewhat silence the shot.

He could have also have bench rest set up, as if it were a mobile blind for people hunting.

If this is the case I hope some citizens "dump" the van (roll it by hitting it in the rear quarter panel) then gang rank these aholes in public leaving a couple of convulsing and broken masses of meat for LEO to interrogate.

Why is the news today calling these sniper style shootings?

According to the gun grabbing media, shootings from close range are done with "Saturday Night Specials" while ones from farther away are done "sniper style". If multiple shots are used, it is an "assault weapon." That way, banning just a few types of guns gets them all.

has anyone accounted for Martha Stewarts whereabouts lately?

Well let you take care of that, and report back.

That's what I'm thinking . . . The back of the truck IS the sniper's nest, tripod and all in there.

I don't believe it is an AR or other semi automatic firearm. I think the shooter is using either a bolt action rifle or handgun (Remington XP100) or possibly a thompson contender. why? The shooter isn't leaving brass at the scene. He may have a brass catcher but as a general rule, they are bulky.

The police seem to think that the shots are being fired from about 150 yards or so away. That isn't a hard shot for a .223 firearm (rifle or handgun). The shooter is hitting targets that are moving slowly and in a constant fashion or are stationary.

If this is the same person committing these crimes, I think he or she has made a mistake by moving south into Virginia. We can carry here.

Last thing I have to wonder about is if the shooter is using a suppressor on his firearm. The seeming confusion of where the shots are coming from would suggest this possibility.

Mike

I think I caught the end of a report re this shooting on local radio WMAL. It was a press conference by the police chief from MD. He was saying they were getting forensic evidence to determine if this shooting was related to the others from yesterday. He did not go out of his way to downplay the possibility or even probability.

I have been listening to WMAL since this thread was posted. There has been no mention of any shooting incident in Virginia.

Perhaps the Michael's choice has some significance, but they also targeted several gas stations. Could be they just discovered that these locations provide easy targets and favorable physical layouts for their attacks.

Many parking lots already have security cameras---see the Toogood case. Wal-Mart, for example, has signs saying the lot is under surveillance.

Don't want to be filmed, don't go to Wal-Mart. Bank robbers would rarely be caught, or convicted, if it weren't for security cameras.
