Inasmuch as the FBI is a federal police force -- there's no getting around that -- it should be subject to the same sort of oversight and sunshine provisions as any other police force. Its success in representing itself as a bastion of stainless integrity has deflected most thrusts toward that effect, but given recent developments (e.g., Waco and Ruby Ridge), its period of grace might be coming to an end.

Then you'd better get some new politicians and party leaders. If Bush had appointed a strong AG and sicced him on the Clintons while ordering investigations into election fraud, the Democrats wouldn't be able to get one of their crooks elected dogcatcher.
Y'all need a leadership transplant in your party. The ones you have spend all their time worrying that some democrat might say something mean about one of them. Half of them are on their knees to their democrat counterparts and the other half pretends not to notice that there is such a thing as a democrat.
Great opposition party you've got there. No wonder the democrats have been able to destroy what was once a great nation.
A pisspoor characterization of Freepers. You may need another four years of reading posts before you get an accurate picture.
Um, wrong... If Bush had been busy on recriminations and investigations, the Dems would charge "witchhunt" and use it as an excuse to win more power & elections. That's not what the people want, and playing coyote to the Democrats' roadrunner is not a winning Strategy. Focus on the business at hand, economy, energy, defense, etc. in case you havent noticed, conservatives like mcconnell are fightng to get antifruad measure put in the election bills.
Y'all need a leadership transplant in your party. The ones you have spend all their time worrying that some democrat might say something mean about one of them. At elast on War on Iraq we have a President who stood his ground and made the Democrat blink, then get mad, then blink again and look the fools for their lack of sense and spine.
Great opposition party you've got there. that is where you are wrong. The GOP will be the majority party if they take the US Senate. We really have a political environment where the parties are split 50/50 on the American people. GOP is the taxpayer and men's party and Dems the subsidy/welfare receiver and women's party.
No wonder the democrats have been able to destroy what was once a great nation. The Democrats have done a lot of stupid and dangerous things and there are plenty of laws and regulations that both Dems and Repubs have foisted on us that shouldnt be, but we are still a great nation. And we will be greater still in years to come.
Some people feel such a compelling need to bomb Iraq that they'd gladly throw the constitution out the window if it would bring that happy morn 30 seconds closer. Bush is going about it the right way--asking congress for a resolution to go after Saddam. I wish all Freepers would support him in that effort instead of (repeatedly) claiming that he's the commander in chief and, when it comes to dropping bombs, can do whatever he wants without congressional authorization or any other dogsquat.
Sometimes it is better to stay silent and be thought a fool...
Anyone who has been a Freeper even four days can see that there are some people here who don't care a hoot about the constitution, Jeffersonian democracy or anything else. They just want to bomb something, the sooner the better, preferably with nukes. The name of this website is Free Republic, as in representative government. If the founders wanted it to be a place which advocated the president's unilateral right to bomb anyone at any time they would have called it Free Dictatorship, not Free Republic.
And sometimes it is better to speak up when they come for the Catholics or the Jews instead of remaining silent until they come for you.
It was a foolish thing to say.
Not to mention false...
Once again a very knee-jerk, intellectually dishonest characterization.
The name of this website is Free Republic
Yes it is, and I suggest you go to FR's home page and read the logo and motto.

I did. And, unlike some people here, the home page makes no claim that the commander in chief has the right to bomb anyone at any time, congress and the constitution be damned. Given that we live in a republic, the president needs the consent of Congress to start a war, and President Bush, I'm glad to say, is currently asking Congress for exactly that. Why anyone here would object to Congress's first approving war with Iraq, I can't imagine, unless he regards Congress and the Constitution as unreasonable restraints on the president's right to bomb away on his own volition.
Ok Dents, name and ping all these people on FR who say 'damn the Constitution'. Let's see how many there really are and what their response is.
If there are alot, I'll concede the point, if there are only a few, then my point about you mischaracterizing FR stands.
I've got a better idea. You print out all the message texts where people demanded that Bush get congressional authorization before bombing anyone. I know there were a few, because I posted them myself. Unfortunately, what I got back was a lot of responses saying:
(1) the commander in chief doesn't need anyone's permission to bomb anyone
(2) the constitution is not a death warrant
(3) the president got all the authorization he needs after 9-11
(4) the 1991 congressional authorization to go after Iraq is still in force (5) wha happens if Bush goes to congress and they vote the wrong way (6) Daschle is an idiot
