The Afghan 'War' Has Continued for Over a Year

The United States failed to learn any lessons from the Afghan campaign. America is making the same mistakes now. American soldiers have no one to wage war with in Afghanistan. The situation is still tense, and relations with the local population are still tough. According to the Washington Post, the current “military operation” against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda is about digging wells and restoring schools. Soviet troops did the same back in the 1980s. Everyone knows how it ended.

For Pravda to compare the current US involvement with the Soviet Union's 1980's crushing disaster is laughable.

What a bleeping joke these losers from the Old USSR are.

Also, anyone who cites a Washington Compost Article like this author has to be on the payroll of Saddam and the Opecker Princes like the staff of the Washinton Compost. ============================================================

Below is picture of what is really happening Afghanistan after we killed most of the Tallibunies and al Queeraidas:

Saddam sends a signal out to all of the remaining Talleybunnies and queer al Qaeda thugs in Afghanistan to rise up and kill the Yankees!

A Former Talibunny who survived in Afghanistan by surrendering to a helicopter with his entire division, shows Saddam what he thinks about his Islamofascist Islamakazi Order.

Then the Former Talibunny tells Saddam what he can do with his chicken signal!

The Soviet Union went into Afghanistan to conquer it and make it part of their empire. They bombed villages, killed people indiscriminately, and tried to Communize them by attacking their religion.

The U.S. has no interest in incorporating Afghanistan into an empire. We have no intention of taking away their religion. And we have been pretty careful not to kill people indiscriminately.

That said, the Afghans will still begin resenting us and suspecting that we want to take over. There are inevitable frictions and accidents. So there is a limit to how long we can afford to stay there before people start wanting us out. Hopefully we can get things relatively cleaned and stabilized by then.

We have done Russia a great favor by cleaning up some of the Muslim terrorists on their doorstep. They have helped us out in return. But it's not surprising that they feel resentful that we succeeded in doing in very short order what they failed to do after a huge struggle. It's only human.

While this article is flawed it brings up some valid points. U.S. forces control an infinitesimal fraction of the ground in Afghanistan. The Northern Alliance was made up of competing tribal warlords. Ordinary Afghans owe more allegiance to their tribes than to the "country" of Afghansitan.

We still have not caught Mullah Omar and Osama's whereabouts are unknown. Talib and AQ fighters cross the Afghan/Pakistani border with impunity while our government makes nice w/ Musharraf. Our SpecOps guys have to act as a "secret service" for Karzai. These developments are disturbing to say the least. The perfumed princes are in charge and that has me concerned.

Plenty of unfinished business and there's no doubt about it. But the primary objective has been achieved -- the Taliban has been ousted and its terrorist supporters in Afghanistan have been essentially pacified. Radical islamism has been dealt a terrible blow by our operations there.
