SCOTUS has said, loudly and clearly, that state courts can rewrite laws and usurp Constitutional authorities on a whim.

Actually, at least in terms of the law, SCOTUS has done no such thing. It says repeatedly that its refusal to grant cert has nothing to do with the merits of a case.

In this case, SCOTUS, in Bush v. Gore, laid down the law, and a lower federal court is perfectly capable of enforcing it. Let us see what happens to the absentee voters' suit in federal district court in Trenton.

I'll give you credit for trying to make lemonade out of a lemon, but I seriously believe we are no longer truly a nation of laws. Rather, we are a nation ruled by unscrupulous lawyers and incompetent, biased, and prejudiced judges.

I am as disappointed and disgusted as you are. However, there are injustices in our legal system perpetrated every day. Look at the OJ murder acquittal, for example.

Yes, we have an absolute mess with this decision, but we cannot give up.

McGreevy's argument is one of the silliest I've ever heard. If this logic is followed elsewhere all laws will instantly acquire hundreds of new loopholes. If a current law does not spell out all possible cases, then the courts will be free to reinterpret those laws in any way they desire. Once again Democrats and lawyers are conspiring together to destroy, logic, common sense, the rule of law and the english languange.

I think we can also add the information that the Republican NON-INCUMBENT, Forester, already beat three Democrats in the US Senate race in a matter of days!! -- and they were far more physically, mentally, and psychologically capable then Lautenberg, the FOURTH name on the list. Remember that the NJ DemocRAT Party offered the chance to run for US Senate to first ex-Congressman Menendez (NJ-13) and then Congressman Pallone (NJ-6). BOTH OF THEM TURNED THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY DOWN. Now, considering the nature of NJ politics, isn't the fact that two CONGRESSMEN turned down what should be a sure thing (against a non-incumbent minority-party candidate) be the sort of information Forester's campaign could inspire people with? (We could say that Lautenberg is about to sally fourth to battle.)

Primaries are not federal election issues. The State shouldn't be funding or participating in primaries anyway.

The only reason the GOP got involved here was because it saw an opportunity to run uncontested.

Not as bad as you think. It's kind of like paying a toll. I've only had one ticket since 1981 and that was in a rental car that had a speedometer that read low! STill my bad though.

BTW, I've been stopped twice in the last four months. One for recklessly entering the freeway and the other for 70+ on the freeway. In both cases the cops asked me to be more careful and let me continue on my way.

In case you're interested, the first cop was yelling at me when he got to my car, and I yelled back. Don't ask me why nobody cited me. In both cases the cops seemed like nice guys and we enjoyed talking.

The Republicans have a pretty clean PR record. The Democrats have Clinton impeachment, Toricelli, the Florida attempt to steal the election, and now democrats are acting like spoiled brats and saying "i'm not winning, so I quit."

I feel America sees adults on the right, children on the left.
In the end, I believe many will become Republicans because of it. Deep inside, people still feel there's a right and wrong, even if they don't understand what that strange feeling in their stomich really is.

I have faith and a sence that all the democrat shananagins are going to add up, and America will turn on them.

Give me a dead man's name, district, and directions to his polling place. I will vote here in VA and then come up there and vote too. Nothing we do could now to trash this election would be worse or more unconstitutional than what the DimRATs have done, including blocking the streets to the polls in heavy RAT districts with unruly mobs. Well we knew they wouldn't take the case and the law has been ignored. Now NJ has to vote republican to show the courts that they can not do this.

Well, that's true. And I certainly hope that happens. But the REALLY bad thing is the precedent that is set. Next time the New Jersey DIMocRATS don't like how a race is going, guess what? They'll refer to this SCONJ ruling and to the fact that the Supreme Court - by refusing to see the case - UPHELD it !!

Nice try, but Article I, Section 4 refered to the election of BOTH Houses of Congress. The only check mentioned is that Congress can't affect the place of election for Senators.

Since the date of election is set BY CONGRESS as the Tuesday after the first Monday in November the year prior to the end of the term, how about suggesting to your state legislature to change the date to, say, January 2 of the year that the term expires? How about January 6 of the year that the term starts? Using your logic, both dates would be Constitutional.

How about moving international relations to cities? How about moving complete control of national defense to the individual states? How about letting each state impose its own set of tariffs? Why have a nation at all?

Where the Constitution is silent, the feds should also be silent.

I said last week, that Lautenberg was a gift. There is no way that a 78 yr old, retired from politics for 2 years,can be brought up to speed on the issues,campaign, make public appearances,debate, give newspaper interviews,appear on tv shows,appear on call in radio shows, etc.It's going to be physically exhausting, which will expose his mental and physical frailties. The Republicans all across the country should ask their Dem opponents, to pledge that they will not withdraw from their particular race, at the last minute. Make this action national.The age differences should be highlighted-the question should be asked, should Lautenberg have a stroke or die in office, who would the Dems appoint? Ronald Reagan ( whom the Dems ridiculed as being too old and out of touch) was 78- When He Left Office!!! Not when he was elected!!!He will be the oldest Senator in the US ,if elected- the Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms of the Democrat Party!!! We need his medical records!!!
