This may be a blessing in disguise. Lautenberg is going to prove to be a lousy candidate. His own words and record can now be used against him, i.e., that Fenwick was too old when he ran against her (she was six years younger than he is now);his reneging on the 21 debates, the fact that he decided not to run again because he was fed up, etc., etc., etc.

Hope you are right. Now Forrester has to hammer on Lautenberg's record. Polls show Lautenberg ahead in the polls but I think that may be just name recognition. Once Forrester starts hitting him on his record, hopefully this will change. However, I'm not hanging my hat on New Jersey voters.

My new prediction: GOP takes 3 seats: MN, SD, and MO. I do not count NJ in the GOP column anymore.

I had a feeling this would happen. Let's make some lemonade, and start pressing for debates. The more often that doddering old fool gets on stage, the better for Forrester. He needs to debate any and all takers, including the third party candidates. He'll look like a moderate next to the Greens and the Libertarians. It's the best way to introduce himself to the electorate. He should go ahead and set up the 21 debates, and see if Lautenberg shows up.

And this will matter to Dim voters? H*ll, they'll vote for a dead guy! "Lousy" is a step up!

All of what you say is true, but it doesn't matter. What matters is that Lousyberg is a 'Rat, and, in NJ, that is enough.

Forrester had a chance against Torricelli in a fair fight. But the 'Rats and the courts saw to it that such was not to be the case.

So where do you turn when the highest court rules against you? What they've said in effect is that the rule of law doesn't matter. Where does that lead one? The Law of the Jungle? Might makes right? Time to take to the barricades...?

" This may be a blessing in disguise. Lautenberg is going to prove to be a lousy candidate"

You are absolutely correct. On some level, I think the Dems secretly hoped to have the SCOTUS take the case, so they could demagogue it. Lautenberg behaves as if he is on a pass from an Alzheimer's unit-he spouts platitudes, but, doesn't "say" anything cogent. If you have an Alzheimer patient in your family, you know how in the early stages, their mind has stored a series of familiar phrases, that they repeat endlessly. The Dems have to be seriously worried about how Lautenberg will behave in a debate. If his performance on the night he accepted the coronation, was any indication, they have to be very, very worried.Watch them try to shield Lautenberg from any public and unscripted performances. He's "Week End at Bernie's ", writ large.

It has been suggested that this old timer has a bit of demensia. From the things he said when he accepted the appointment by the DNC and Senate Dems I believe he is a little addled. Agreeing in grandiose style to 21 debates to be held in 30 days! I really wish Forrester could get 21 debates in 30 days. Old whatshisname would crumple and fold right before the cameras.

Forrester can easily beat him especially on his past record and lack of coherence during the next 30 days. Unless NJ is so hopelessly knee jerk dem that nothing can unseat the
party of the "screw you"'

All of Lautenberg's past won't matter because the people of NJ don't know anything about Lautenberg anyway. They are just voting the Democrat ticket. They don't even know who is on the ticket. It is irrelevant to believers in the NJ "democracy."

This may be a blessing in disguise.

Someone said that to Winston Churchill after an election setback. His response: "It seems quite effectively disguised at the moment."

I'm having trouble finding any good news here. We'll be left to cry "Where's the outrage?" as Bob Dole did in 1996. It didn't work then, and it's not likely to work now.

Doesn't matter. NJ is predominately dimoRat. Were it not for his eggregious criminal acts, Toricelli would have beaten Forrester hands down. The 'pubs are right to fold this hand and divert funding to other winable races. NJ is a lost cause, and I frankly don't care what NJ does to it's future, but the precedent that the SCONJ and SCOUS has allowed is VERY damaging. This is a bad day for the Republic.
