Want my honest opinion of how Bill Simon did? Actually, he surprised me. HE KICKED JOE DAVIS' @SS!

Yes, he did! Simon was calm, cool and collected ... he had his facts and figures straight, smiled, looked at the camera, seemed personable and real and, frankly, like someone you'd want to have a beer with while watching a football game. Davis looked like a cadaver. Davis NEVER looked at the camera, stammered and stuttered, and his SHIRT DIDN'T FIT! Simon looked like a leader, Davis looked like a funeral director, the one who charges you for the nice casket and buries grandma in a pine box.

Go Simon! Kick more Joe Davis butt!

Here is one for Hillary:

I could write a very angry letter right now about Sen. Hillary Clinton, but I decided instead merely to express some constructive criticism. Let me begin by saying that Hillary is intellectually dishonest in everything she says and does. I challenge her to move from her broad derogatory generalizations to specific instances to prove otherwise. Her advocates are hostile at best, the downfall of society at worst. Likewise, she possesses no significant intellectual skills whatsoever and has no interest in erudition. Heck, she can't even spell or define "erudition," much less achieve it. There are few certainties in life. I have counted only three: death, taxes, and Hillary doing some nit-picky thing every few weeks. Now, I don't want to overwork the story about how she plans to tinker about with a lot of halfway prescriptions, so let's just say that she maintains that either boosterism is the only alternative to barbarism or that freedom must be abolished in order for people to be more secure and comfortable. Hillary denies any other possibility. She says that the ideas of "freedom" and "voyeurism" are Siamese twins. Yet she also wants to ignore compromise and focus solely on her personal agenda. Am I the only one who sees the irony there? I ask, because mephitic delinquents (like Hillary) are not born -- they are excreted. Lastly, none of Sen. Hillary Clinton's "progressive" ideas have actually resulted in any progress.

Unfortunately, my TV wasn't working quite right, so I had to listen to the debate via the Internet, and I missed a lot of the first part while fumbling with the TV.

I was very impressed with Simon. He was in excellent command of the facts and had an air of confidence that Davis struggled badly to imitate.

Davis sounded sneaky and evasive when talking about the two issues of most interest to me: The power crisis and the budget. Simon capitalized on Davis' own admission that he panicked during the power crisis. He also scored major points when talking about the budget. Davis accused him of not being specific enough; Simon shot back with citations to a number of specific proposals.

But my favourite moment had to be when Davis was asked why so many people disliked him, including - especially - people in the legislature. His hopeless answer to this question, mainly a vain attempt to change the subject, went off like a lead balloon, so much so that the follow-up question was simply a repeat of the original.

My least favorite part was where Simon was asked pointed questions about gun control. Davis was especially effective in mentioning the NRA contributions and endorsements; the implication was that Simon was pay to play on this issue, just as Davis was on his. We all know this is wrong - Simon's viewpoint was independently derived - but I could see it scored points.

But let's close this with another highlight - Davis was talking about the family leave bill, and Simon noted that the whole thing was funded by a tax. "Contributions," said Davis. No, Gray, it was a tax. I knew it. Simon knew it. And, more to the point, even the audience knew it.

And, finally, Simon was asked why so many people wanted to pick a different candidate. He brought up the point that most people don't know him, and I think he's right.

This debate showed me that Simon is hard-working, intelligent and will make a great governor. Let's do everything we can to make this happen in November.

I was absolutely SHOCKED that the ultra leftists George Skelton from the LASlimes attacked Davis right in his first question!

I got to listen to most of it, on a Santa Cruz radio station 1080 am, and KFBK this after noon. Also on ABC Channel 10 in Sacramento right now re airing the debate.

What I found so amusing of Davis is his stumbling of words, incoherent at times, and always attacking Simon. He tended to down play the words, like taxes for revenues, and yes contributions. Also, green house gases, which is a farse of a bill, and that everyone is contributing to pay for "family leave act"? A$$hole!!!

I did listen and found Simon always staying with the questions. Didn't seem to me that he tried to sway out of questions, and answered them as he always had from previous talk interviews I heard him on.

What I found hilarious was that political editorial Times editor, Janet ?? asking Davis why both parties don't like him, and Davis spews off all kinds of personality stuff, like Eron, long extension cord to Texas for power, and Jay Leno, "white men can jump" jokes. In which Janet came back, and pounded Davis a new one, 'I didn't ask you about a personality test', I asked why don't parties on both sides can't stand you? I can image that Davis must of been fumbling at that rebuttal remark made Janet.... ;0)

Quite a few times, I was yelling at the radio, calling Davis, of course, liar and other words.....lol...

"A professional politician is a professionally dishonorable man. In order to get anywhere near high office he has to make so many compromises and submit to so many humiliations that he becomes indistinguishable from a streetwalker."

"Davis looked like a cadaver"

I've never seen Davis when he didn't look like they just lifted out of a box prior to planting and stood him up for the camera!

Duffus is an antimated cadaver!

They should have pulled the life support system long ago!

"A professional politician is a professionally dishonorable man."

Thus wrote an inveterate racist and anti-semite. I don't need advice from such a person. Mencken was full of himself and set the mold for today's prima-donna, opinion-spewing, agenda-setting, Christian-hating "journalists."

That being said, I think the quote applies to Davis quite well but it is a gross simplification to imply that all politicians are evil, as Mencken often did. It is this cynicism which makes people lose their public spirit and become more suseptible to liberal demagoguery which will "save" them from all the "threats" they are faced with.

I didn't mean anything against you, so I hope you don't take offense :)

BUMP Thanks Cinnamon Girl for the After Report, they are one of my favorite threads on FR. I want to ask you a question... You say you get a lot of media attention at the FReeps, but do they ever follow up put the photos in their newspapers? At the Seattle FReep by our Puget Sound Chapter on Sunday, we were interviewed many times and photos taken. BUT, in the paper the next day no photos - nor on the TV that night. And we had great signs. They mentioned my name but not FRee Republic. I was disappointed.

BUMPERAMA!!!

Simon did better than Davis in the debate which surprised me a little consider how much more Davis has over Simon in political debating (I had said Bill Jones won the GOP debates). Simon danced a bit around the gun issue when pressed.

A pleasure meeting you Cinnamon Girl, and your daughter too.

The union thugs were there in full orchestrated force. I had it out with a few of the very threatening fata$$es. They were some big angry looking punks. I exchanged words with quite a few of them, given I am not too shy about my opinions. I called them "Davis' whores" and called them "Union thugs", right to their faces mind you. One scumbag Davis union thug said I "looked like a queer" in the Superman ("S" is for Simon) outfit, remarking that Republicans are queers. I promptly retorted that queers overwhelming support democRATS. They did not like that much.
