Today on the Senate floor, Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) said his office has received over 9,000 phone calls supporting him in his actions to block a vote on the Iraq resolution.
What Byrd didn't mention was the number of calls his office has received telling him to stop blocking the President!!! Maybe because he has not heard from enough people, yet.
Sen. Robert Byrd (D) 311 Hart Senate Office Building (202) 224-3954; 228-0002 Charleston: (304) 342-5855 http://byrd.senate.gov/ senator_byrd@byrd.senate.gov
I called this afternoon and spoke to a rather unpleasant young woman who answered the phone. She did take my message and said it would be passed on. Freep away people, it's time to take our country back!!!!!!

Did anyone catch his rambling silly speech about "Paul Bunyen" and lilliputins tying him down with tiny cords?
I saw parts of it but couldnt understand it the only thing I could thing about while watching it was, what would happen if you put him in a room with bill mcbride between the stuttering and rambling I would be swinging from the rafters within minutes

I did end my comments to his office by asking about his KKK affiliation. He's full of sheets. Big, pointy white sheets, with holes cut in them.

Byrd is a self-important, pompous arse given to grandiose ramblings on the Senate floor. He fancies himself the most knowledgeable senate historian and keeper of its institutional perogatives. He loves to hear himself speak in pretentious tones about ancient Greeks and Romans, and all manner of obscure things. Just about every speech on the floor that Byrd gives is a filibuster of sorts, because he drones on and on mostly about absolutely nothing. He is a giant in his own mind.
And never, ever forget that he was the one Dem who openly admitted on TV that Clinton had committed high crimes and misdemeanors. When asked why he wouldn't vote to convict the president if he believe Clinton guilty, Byrd gave one of his typically babbling non sequiturs. Some nonsense to the effect that while he thought the president was guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors, that wasn't sufficient to remove Clinton from office.

The biggest argument against term limits is the will of the voter. If the voters want to continue to elect people term after term, why should their will be obstructed?
In all honesty, the precedent set by the NJSC (and backed by the USSC) has done more damage to our government than removing term limits. With NJ saying, in effect, the two party system must be protected the possibility of 3rd party candidates being elected has been severely harmed.

Canjun girl who suggested we call Byrds office today? The subject came up over here , Dog. I'm going to call again tomorrow, and encourage the Senator to watch "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" for an example of principled leadership. :-)

My e-mail to the Senator's office:
"I can't believe that the Grand Dragon of the Senate is throwing his support behind Iraq instead of the United States. Shame on the Democrat party."

I sent him an email telling him that the vast majority of the American people want their government to protect them from terrorism so get off his soapbox.
To: Brytani
That's a good point. But, again, as soon as the Senate votes on an Iraq resolution, they'll switch the discussion to their "sure win" domestic issues in the final weeks of the campaign. I'm not saying Republicans should encourage Democrats to drag-out the Iraq issue, but it's the focus on Iraq which is keeping "their" issues on the backburner.

I think Bobby identifies with the middle east. After all, they wear sheets too.

I understand your point. I'm angry that the dishonest, dishonorable legislators get re-elected term after term, that our government is too powerful, etc. It seems to me we are at some kind of crossroads about the way we govern ourselves.
I don't pretend to have the answers, but I follow things enough to know something doesn't feel right.

Hey guys I don't know what's up but apparently some of the other Democratic Senators are saying the same thing. I'm wondering if this is being orginized by someone. Most democrats will not speak until they get their "talking points".
