the court is not going to allow a man to unilaterally exercise a power to avoid service and keep the money

I'd have to think the AF could make a pretty good "felony theft by fraud" case against him.

Liberals get really really pissed at that one.

I think she REALLY likes to be called "Bubbette!" because it reminds her of her rural roots, and the fact that she owes all her success to marrying the "right" man.

I thought of Klinger too, except Klinger was drafted into a combat position and the immorality of his refusal to serve his country was more open to debate. It seems like a patently craven move on this man's part to brazenly defy military code in an effort to get off the hook...it is not like being a shrink for four years and delaying your practice for that long is all that big a deal.

This idiot aside, I really wonder what the proper solution to this Don't ask, don't tell nonsense is, these days.

The military has a very sweet deal for doctors. My cousin's husband joined the Navy to pay for medical school. He has one year left of a general surgery residency, after which he owes the Navy four years--maybe. The thing is, the Navy has decided it may not need as many doctors as it estimated when it signed him up.

He may very well end up serving out his obligation in the Reserves and never spend a day on active duty. Even if he does have to serve his active duty obligation, he comes out of the deal debt free, while most of his classmates owe in the neighborhood of $100K

That surgeon who will work for the military for 4 years to repay his school debt will be making about 200,000 dollars less per year while on active duty than he'd make in private surgical practice - plus be subject to assigment wherever the military needs him including being away from family etc, like any soldier. So that good deal you talk about costs him about 800,000 dollars in lost revenue and practice building time as he has to start over once out of the military. The service got a great deal signing him up -= and he got a good deal to serve his country - but not a financial good deal - I know -been there - done that - with no complaints - served 6 years.

Something about the Klintoons reminds me of the saying: You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.

Thanks to that POS Klintoon, the issue became more public and messy. Maybe someone who was active duty military (NCO) may have some insight.

Had I taken advantage of going to graduate school and the Navy paid for it, I would have owed them one year for each 6 months of school, on top of my original commitment. This guy got a real deal.

I thought the Air Force had a gay pride week, right after the
warrior week celebrations. I mean it isn't like by serving in the Air Force he would really be in the military, more like junior college.

I would like to put forth an apology to any gay Air Force persons out there. I did not mean to be insensitive when I compred the Air Force to going to junior college.

The other "deal" is that the military quack can make all of his mistakes and never be held responsible. If he quits making mistakes, he can get out and get a real job. If he continues to make mistakes, he can stay in and make a career of it.

A USCG veteran friend told me that when he was in during the right-after-Nam years, lots of straight guys would use the "gay" game to get out.

There are simply Air Force personnel who dealt with the guy during the education process, and who felt he was probably gay from day one...yet he used the free education and thought that they would just let him walk out the front door. Its not the first time something like this has happened. Most previous cases, the individual didn't want his name to get into the press or make a big deal out of the whole thing. They got to a point where they just said ok...give me a job for four years and we are even. And that is what this idiot should have done. He will have this $70k paid off in five years with a civilian practice. And that will be the end of the story....oh, except for the book he will likely write. You can likely guess a good title for it.

I now apologize to all the gay Air Force members for my inability to spell correctly. Sorry warriors.

Nice. I'm not sure what your story is. Maybe you are just jealous that the quality of life in the AF is so much better than other services. So be it. Life is good and cushy, but the job is getting done. Were soft, can't run, don't sleep in tents--its all true.

But, if you are trying to say that there are a lot of homosexuals in the AF, you've got it all wrong. The only question I have is which service has a higher proportion of homosexuals, the Navy or the Marines. The gay squids like the tight quarters and keep their name on their back pockets, while the gay Marines enjoy the ultimate in macho over-compensation.

Oh, and you know what they say, a 100 sailors go on, and 50 couples come off. Warrior week!
