AL MUKALLA, Yemen, Oct. 10 — A fiery explosion aboard a French oil tanker in the Arabian Sea resulted from an attack on the ship, U.S. and French officials concluded Thursday. The Americans said it was an act of terrorism most likely carried out by people with links to al-Qaida.

My first thought too.
I saw a late night report...can't remember who...that the French are reconsidering, as well as the Canadians, I believe it was a British paper being quoted. I remember specifically it was reported the Canadian Prime Minister said yesterday they would support the action if the UN is on board.
